WoW + BC + WotLK is a good several months of playing for the uninitiated, except maybe those who have active friends at max level and their purpose of buying the game is to get to max level ASAP to join their friends in endgame. Most new people trying to game out for $5 are not like that though. This is a lot of content and will last a true newbie months and months. Anyway, this is a good opportunity for somebody to try the game out will full features activated for a month on the super cheap. There's a reason this game, despite having a monthly fee, obliterates the closest MMO competitor in subscription numbers. It's a quality, albeit aging, product with a lot of value. If you've always been curious, $5 is a great price to pay to try it out. Then at least you can say you tried it when you go on forums to talk crap about it.

Direct from Blizzard: " In addition, all World of Warcraft subscribers will now automatically have access to all of the content and features of both The Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King, even if they never purchased either expansion, at no additional cost." http://us.battle.net/wow/en/blog/...-9_19_2012 So actually you don't even need a battle chest. You could get just the small box of vanilla (original) WoW and you would still have both Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King expansions. You can find the old vanilla original WoW box for cheap all over. (This Battle Chest comes with a cool book, though, so that's cool.) |

90% of people returning to WoW are not new customers. It's been out a very long time. 1-70 has been nerfed so much that 1-70 is now faster than hierlooms used to get you there. Having hierlooms now adays just makes it stupid-easy instead of very easy. Edit: I just read the rest of your paragraph. WoW/BC/WotLK cannot take several months because of dungeon grinding. Nobody plays those expansions except for leveling, so there is no "stopping" you just keep leveling through it. Exp is so fast now that you dont even need to quest until 85. I leveled 1-70 without doing more than the starter quests to get off Panda island. I literally grinded dungeons entirely in 2 days, that is how easy it is now adays and it is faster than questing. Leveling is so fast that at some levels you outlevel some dungeons before ever getting the chance to do them via random dungeon finder. They want you to level fast as possible so you spend money more, and before you know it you gave Blizzard almost $100 buying up all the expansions and a few months gametime. Now that I think about it, they literally reduced Cata exp in half. 9 mil for one level is now 4.5mil. (I really need to quit WoW) Last edited by Trakanonn; 02-11-2013 at 10:12 AM.. |

People still play this?

$15 a month sounds like a lot, but it's totally worth it.
When I was addicted to Wow, I stopped buying other games, and pretty much stayed in on weekends. Sure, it was bad for my social life, but I saved so much more money. Nowadays, I go out drinking every weekend and usually spend $50+ at the bars/clubs lol. Ugh. |

Can be purchased directly from Blizzard for $5. Digital (play as soon as the download finished) or Boxed. http://us.blizzard.com/store/details.xml?id=110000044PS While this is a "PC only" version, but the CD key will work any Mac. Just download the client from Blizzard then enter this key.

I originally played WoW for 3 months around the time the first expansion came out, then I let my sub end. A few months ago Blizzard sent me one of those e-mail offers from playing Diablo 3 and offered me a free digital copy of Wrath of the Lich King and a month of play time.
Now I don't feel so special knowing that anyone can get all of the WoW games that I have for $5 :'( I didn't ever get too into WoW, although I played it quite a bit. From what I hear it's not really the same at all anymore. I would probably check out Guild Wars 2 before I got back into WoW. |

Either way, as was said above, if you start playing wow and don't go out drinking one night a month, you've probably paid for the subscription and then some. For $35 for all expansions (or even for $5 for just this battle chest), WOW is worth it in my book. I suppose YMMV. side note: if you get this game and have a smart phone, you might be interested in the Mobile Armory with auction house capabilities on it. It is free and can keep you intouch with your guild or help you make some extra gold from auctions. And I strongly recommend an authenticator - free smart phone option if you have a smart phone or they sell for cost ($6.50 last I saw) from blizzard. |

There are enough really good free to play MMOs out there, that this is not really a slickdeal. If you've never played WOW before, I'd highly suggest you try those as you'll be able to play more casually and save yourself $180 dollars a year.
WOW remains the top polished MMO, but the others are good enough to justify not spending the money and saving on the sub which is far slicker. |

I know this is seen as a good deal however this is false. If you start the free trial of WoW to level 20 (recruit a friend or on your own), you get the first 3 expansions for free. You will just have to buy the last 2 (cataclysm and MoP). My sons girlfriend just recently did this and all she had to buy were the last 2.
