The quality difference between Hori and Madcatz as makers of fightsticks is a wash. They both use Sanwa buttons (OBSF-30mms) and Sanwa Joysticks (JLFs). I'm not a huge fan of the SFxT stick from a design perspective, but I greatly prefer this stick to the Hori sticks that you posted. The Tournament Edition fightsticks from Madcatz are the stick of choice for most players and are far more common than Hori sticks. The size and weight of the T.E. sticks is more balanced and the start button is NOT right next to the other buttons. If you ever plan to play in a tournament, hitting start will get you disqualified from the match. Newer Hori sticks have a switch you can toggle to disable start for your matches, but if you accidentally forget, you risk losing. Also, I don't like this particular Hori stick because the handles are like "wings" on the side and the weight just isn't there IMO. If you're going to get a Hori stick, I'd recommend moreso one that's similar to the Tekken Tag Tournament 2 design- more rectangular with the ability to cover the start button. It also has a better size and weight. An example of this stick is here: http://www.amazon.com/Tekken-Tour...cade+stick They also have this same stick in a Soul Calibur V design and a Dead or Alive 5 design. I'm not saying the stick that you posted is garbage, but it's definitely NOT superior to a Tournament Edition stick. It's at best (and most fighting game players would agree) equal to it, but more likely very slightly inferior. I personally prefer the other Hori stick a tad bit more than a tournament edition stick, but that's like a 9.51/10 vs a 9.5/10. That being said, if you're in the market for one, definitely pick up a stick like this or a Hori equivalent. The market value for a new one at a good price is about $100 and they're well worth it. |
