dblake22; Here is my parking assist... Out of the way and cost less then 2 bucks.
Parking Assist [tinypic.com] scdealer: That's pretty awesome. Can you post a link to how to/schematic of how you ran the string? I too am intrigued by your design. I like how the ball is out of the way when the door is closed. Please share more (pictures and/or video) how you did this. ![]() PS. I have a mark that I hit plus/minus an inch. The wife, well... we have scrapes on the rear bumper cover and other times you can't walk in front of the vehicle. Last edited by dlevans; 02-11-2013 at 09:54 AM.. |

Or hang a stuffed animal (or tennis ball) from the ceiling. Mine raises up out of the way as the garage door goes down. Cost me a drywall anchor, eyehook, string, nut, bolt, and one of my dogs unloved stuff animals. Similar to this [youtube.com]. Last edited by Bmr4life; 02-11-2013 at 10:15 AM.. BMR != BMW. Post that I drive one and you show that you're a fool.

Foundthis one last year at my local Big Lots for a buck (only one they had) Has worked well since and I haven't even bothered to adhere it to the floor. It sometime smoves but there's a mark on the floor where it needs to be.
As for how it works, you'll feel your wheel go over the first bump, indicating it's time to stop. I like to tennis ball connected to the garage door idea as I have plenty of those. It'll be out of the way. The BOFH - - - - Some days you're the dog, some days your the hydrant.
He who OP'd the -84 TD post. |

i live in a condo with a single car garage and can squeeze in both my motorcycle (parked horizontally in the back of the garage) and my car with about 6" of clearance so i need a parking assistant so i dont accidentally hit my motorcycle. esp if my girlfriend is parking i use the string on a tennis ball method personally |

My friend said that he'd purchased two really crappy, no-name sensors; one at an auto parts store and one at a Dollar Store. They were frightfully ineffective, for him. They sometimes worked other times not. He was always replacing batteries. He recalled my tale of my father's tennis ball and told me that he, subsequently, did the same thing with a 'pinkie' ball. That worked great until his seven year old smacked it about with a bat and the string wrapped around the rafter. My take-away? Stay away from inexpensive sensors... and observe the KISS principle. Hooking the string to the edge of the garage door sounds terribly clever... if the dimensions all work out okay. Last edited by tooslow; 02-12-2013 at 11:41 AM.. |

so this would be needed to keep him from hitting the OUTSIDE of the truck against the garage door as he backs in the driveway OUTSIDE of the garage. (sheesh - never get a vehicle bigger than your garage!) I'll look for name brand products with lots of reviews on Amazon.
