I wonder how it compares to what's inside this -
Seagate Backup Plus 3TB USB 3.0 Black Desktop Hard Drive STCA3000101 - which is also $119 right now but getting no love on SD. Someone on NewEgg Reviews wrote about the Backup Plus drive - "It's the Seagate Barracuda ST3000DL001 Hard drive that is actually in the unit." Both 2 year warranty. I need a drive to run 24/7 for HTPC - speed isn't as important as durability, quiet, and running cool....but it would get noisy anyway if I put it in my 2 bay JBOD w/fan. Artificial intelligence is never a match for natural stupidity
Most useless terms: ASAP - how bout earlier? YMMV - isn't that life? Do ___ going forward - any other way? I got x for $y on BF or last week - unless you have DeLorean with a flux capacitor Illegitimati non carborundum Wins: #1, #2, #3, #4, #5? Regarding the firmware to fix the "chirping" issue. If you get a drive that has firmware CC9D, you won't not be able to "upgrade" to firmware CC4H that has the fix.

You will not get warranty as an internal drive since it has firmware specific to external drives and will be in their databases as external. Golden Rule of a Deal: If an item has been offered validly at a price of $X at any time, then never pay more than that in the future. It has been discontinued or will appear again at that price soon enough.

As far as the drive spinning down, you can always change that in your Power Options -> Change plan settings -> Change advanced power settings. In the dialog, expand Hard disk and change the timeout to Never (defaults to 20 minutes). |

As far as XP, I have an XP install on a secondary drive which occasionally I boot to via my BIOS. My main OS is Windows 7, which is what I will set this drive up with and use primarily. Let's say I partition it as two 1.5TB partitions and format it in Windows 7. If I now boot to XP, will XP see the partitions normally and use the drive normally?
