Artificial intelligence is never a match for natural stupidity
Most useless terms: ASAP - how bout earlier? YMMV - isn't that life? Do ___ going forward - any other way? I got x for $y on BF or last week - unless you have DeLorean with a flux capacitor Illegitimati non carborundum Wins: #1, #2, #3, #4, #5? You have been assimilated into the SD collective consciousness, resistance is futile ![]() Bulldozer Tesla = Titan [dailytech.com] |

also as he said, apm is advanced power management. If you use a tool like crystaldiskinfo you can disable apm (under function>advanced feature) and the noise/sluggishness stops. The newer firmware basically lowers the value for apm (at least for this particular issue). There were a few blogposts about the time it was fixed in firmware about a specific setting where if you set it lower this would stop. |

Read this if you are thinking about using these in a NAS. I would get the WD Red.

Golden Rule of a Deal: If an item has been offered validly at a price of $X at any time, then never pay more than that in the future. It has been discontinued or will appear again at that price soon enough.

Here is what i found on this drive when i got it during BF:
"I followed your steps and took mine apart. Once the top shell is taken off, there are a couple metal clips along the outside of the metal housing near the ports. These can be spread slightly apart so you can more carefully pull the drive out if needed (just don't bend the ports/circuit board). I took some pics with my phone for a little bit of perspective: http://i.imgur.com/amCHA.jpg http://i.imgur.com/fr7k8.jpg http://i.imgur.com/AJCL5.jpg My manufacture date is 09/2012. Want to know the best part? I used SeaTools to test the drive beforehand and it all came out fine, after about 12 hours :/. I used the warranty checker (link in the SeaTools app) on seagate.com to check the drives warranty - i believe it was January 2013. This is no surprise (it should be a year) however, the internal drive had a warranty out to 25-Dec-2015 . I should have never bought that squaretrade 2 year warranty .edit: I can also confirm again that the model is ST3000DM001 and no, the enclosure wasn't soldered to the drive ."So roll the dice, you may get a better warranty with an 'external drive' .Also, is there a way to quote a post from another thread? |

Someone wanting higher speed HDD's won't like the Red's as much. The AnandTech and Tom's Hardware review describe the Red well: http://www.anandtech.c http://www.tomshardwar Hope that helps. Last edited by Sorid; 02-11-2013 at 06:45 PM.. |
