Are you talking about the BOA CC (signature) with $400 + 10% which came out around August September? |

I will confirm the OP's idea for gas station gift cards, I do this for BP and Speedway all the time. again, never had an issue.
in fact, back in the day (2007/2008), Marathon used to sell their prepaid cards for 4% off ($50 for for 48, etc), those also qualified for the discounted "cash" price at the pump, so in effect you could triple-dip - discounted "cash only" gas price + gift card discount + credit card cashback,,, Haven't been to a marathon is years so no idea if they still do anything like that. Also, not sure if it matters for each club or not, but every Sam's Gas station I've been to (granted it's only 3 or 4) accepts BOTH Visa AND Mastercard. and yes, it for sure is coded as gas, and i've never had an issue getting 5%. I'll for sure be stocking up on BP+Speedway cards in the month of March, enough to max out the $1500 advantage. my associated bank visa "only" gives back 3% for gas so i guess that'll have to do for the rest of the year once these prepaid cards run out. in short: thanks for the reminder, OP! |

Just to confirm: Do you buy Kroger gift card from Turkey Hill Store (and the purchase coded as gas) and then use those in Kroger to buy groceries? If this works, it will be fantastic as I do not want to buy too many gas gift cards. Please let me know. |

A safer and sure fire way is to buy gas gift cards at your supermarket and get the cash back from those. If you have an Amex Blue preferred, that is 6% cash back. And there is no debate as to whether it counts as I have never seen any supermarket purchase not count. Do the same with postage stamp purchases at the supermarket to get cash back off those.
Also, as noted by some already, some gas stations have discount points programs with local super market chains. Stop and Shop for instance gives you 1 Shell gas point for each dollar spent. Every 100 points gets you 10 cents off a gallon at the next refill. Better than nothing obviously. Stop and Shop's computer system is smart enough though to not count gift card or stamp purchases towards the Shell points. |

"You also get extra savings when using your gift card at the pumps or inside as they count as non-credit card transactions so you'd get the cash price on the gas per gallon." What exactly do you mean by that? Theres a cash and non-cash price on gas?? |
