First quarter 2013 we have the 5% bonus cash back off of gas purchases with our card.
https://creditcards.chase.com/fre...ivate.aspx

You can prolong the 5% by walking inside the gas station, and if they offer their brand gas gift cards, buy them. It has been confirmed by Chase that you will get the 5% extra when purchasing a gift card inside the store.

You also get extra savings when using your gift card at the pumps or inside as they count as non-credit card transactions so you'd get the cash price on the gas per gallon.

I usually buy a good size $ gas gift card when the quarter is about over so I can continue to reap the rewards after the expiration of the extra bonus.

Just a reminder of what has always worked for me.

What I did to confirm is after purchasing my gift card, I'd call Chase customer service and they can confirm your % cash back with that particular transaction. There's never been an issue when it wasn't 5%.

Also if you have a BI-LO near you and use BI-LO Perks, this helps to use along with your BI-LO gas perks at the pump.
If you take advantage of an offer on our site, Slickdeals may receive a commission.

Remember that you only get 1500 per category per qt

It is not 1500 per category per quarter....It is 1500 per quarter spent across the respective categories. (edited on 03/30/2013)

wonder if there is a thing such as Kroger gas card. Kroger and Costco are consistently the cheapest where I live

Sam's Club (at least all the ones in Socal) for gas will allow you to use Visa, MasterCard, or Discover! So you should be able to use your freedom card.

Costco requires Amex or Debit only!

You can't use Visa credit cards (Freedom) on either Sams or Costco. Discover and Amex respectively.
At Sam's you can use Visa/MasterCard/Discover at the pumps but NOT Amex. I go there all the time.

For GAS you can use VISA Freedom. I used it all the time including today morning..
Where do you live? Costco in California doesn't seem to allow VISA/MC

It is also specifically for stand alone gas stations, so your 7-11 / gas station won't count.

Isn't the quarterly 5% capped at a spending of $1500?

This quarter is Gas + DrugStores I think
They used to be un capped a month or so ago.

Yes, you can use the Visa cc at the Sam Gas Station only but not inside the store. Inside the store you can use Discover or I think Mastercard also.

Do you still get the 5% reward?

First off, that doesn't always work as some treat it as a convenience store purchase. Second, not all gas stations will allow you to buy a GC with a credit card.

Third, for a considerably easier method you can walk in to a drugstore and purchase those $500 prepaid cards for $5.

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay easier! Big Grin

FYI - A way around this is to use your Visa to buy a Costco cash card on-line. I no longer have an Amex and found this to be a good way to still buy stuff in-store against a CCard of sorts.

Also easier is to get a PenFed Platimum VISA that gives 5% back on gas all the time.

That is sooo not true. I've maxed out my quarterly benefits almost every quarter the last two year and the quarterly bonus never exceeds 4,000 pts.

You can use your CCard uncapped, and get the 1% back uncapped, but there is definitely a cap on the additional 4% categories.

Do those prepaid cards count as debit or credit at the pumps?
