How is the build on this? I like the specs for the price and have an Alienware M14X R1 that took a bad fall (silly girlfriend) so I'm looking to replace it and this looks like a great replacement. Curious on the build quality though.

We have about 400 laptops in my office and it is a fair split between HP and Lenovo. The lenovos are better laptops hands down! We have fewer issues with them, they stand up to more abuse, they are all around a better laptop. Granted that is only the sample we have to work with, but I would be all over this if I hadn't bought the little ASUS s200 a few weeks ago and I've already recommended this deal to 5 other people.

Keep in mind, down the road, if you want to upgrade this laptop, you can purchase a 2nd Nvidia 650m to run in SLi mode. Also remember you will need a separate power adapter as well. I'm trying to find the link for the SLi card but I'm having no luck, if anyone can help me out I'd appreciate it! I believe it's $229 on Lenovo's website. No doubt the Y500 deal is a better deal if you're going to do some major gaming in HD and watch movies, but if you're not, and cash strapped needing a laptop right now, at least the capability is there for a 14incher that can have dual graphics

PS. I do not own this laptop, but I can tell you from my past laptops, Lenovo/IBM laptops are built like a tank (although ideapads are slightly less quality than a thinkpad, but these are consumer grade laptops & I'd get them over HP or Dell any day)

It is entirely your call. Just bear in mind that the laptop plus adapter will weigh in at close to 7 pounds. Whether or not that is a problem, only you can decide.

Blanket statements are just that. I own an ASUS and have had NOTHING but bad luck with it. This speaks about this one laptop not the brand. I've only ever heard good things about Lenovo, so again, blanket statements without details should be ignored.

Hmmm. Kind of tempted in this as an upgrade to my K53TA but I'd really, really, really rather see a laptop in person first before buying. Built qualities, materials, trackpad and keyboard are crucial.

Anyone know if this is carried in any B&M stores?

That is entirely your call, no? If you think $70 for the 16GB SSD is worth it then it is. It is that simple. For me, a great screen over a crappy screen is a much more important consideration, but as you pointed out: each one has their priorities.

And a much worse graphics card. Won't be able to play many games past medium with that card, the 2GB 650M however is very capable at playing almost all games on high, even some on ultra.

If you're not a gamer though, the 1080p screen will be better for everything else.
