You're hurting yourself out of a good deal. SD community is behind this, so if something goes wrong, you're not alone. |

Rakuten is the new name of Buy.com. When I purcahsed from Buy.com using PayPal, Buy.com added me to their mailing list without asking permission. I would never, ever have given them the email address I use for PayPal so I know that is where they got the email address from. Now I get spam from Buy.com/Rakuten every day.
I still use PayPal, but I am now even less likely to use it. |

How is this for storing media? I read some one star review on Amazon, about how somebody tried to playback movies and music on it, and it was horrible. Specifically, I want to be able to plug it into my ps3 and play movies on it, that's why I am concerned.
Just a quick quote from his review. "The problem is this thing likes to spin up and down a lot. If you do not access it for about 20 seconds it will spin down. So that means if you're listing to music or watching a video on your computer, or whatever you have it attached to, and it doesn't access it in 20 seconds it spins down. Then it has to spin up again, usually 20 seconds, to a couple mins later(depending on the media) to get more information to continue playing the media. This creates hiccups in the playback. Not only that it is hard on the drive and I don't expect it to last long." |

Amazon has a 3.0 version for $69.99 which is 61% off list price. It's the BUFFALO MiniStation Plus 1 TB USB 3.0 Portable Hard Drive - HD-PNT1.0U3B. I'm not a techie, but perhaps one could explain if this is as good a deal?

I'm not sure about these specific drives, but our university uses Buffalo drives for data management in our TV Communications department. Our failure rate on Buffalo drives are about 40 percent. The company has told us we must be doing something wrong because the failure rates are terrible. I'm the supervisor for our technicians in our I.T. department and I assure you we are not doing anything out of normal use for these drives. Just though SD'ers should know.
