PDF's are really intensive to process. I suggest getting a faster 7" tablet like the Nook HD or the Nexus 7 if you will be using mostly pdf's. You can convert pdf's to a less processor-intensive format with popular software like calibre which will be fine if the pdf in question is mostly text.

For people wondering why get an e-ink reader instead of a more powerful 7" tablet, scientific studies have shown artificial backlight from lcd screens will disrupt your sleep cycle. It's better to read with more natural light like the soft backlight found in e-readers when going to sleep.

That's good thinking! I have several tablets and the NST. When I use the tablets to read, I do spend too much time on other stuff. When I use the NST to read, I just read! Definitely get more reading done that way.

They are both good, but I think they serve different purposes. Especially now that you can get tablets so cheap and these ereaders so cheap, best to have one of each for its intended purpose.

By the way, LOVE my NST. Battery absolutely never runs out. Better for reading than the LCD tablets. I installed Aldiko and a couple other ereader apps on my NST, awesome!

thanks for the info. I've never tried e-ink readers but I do know lcd screens definitely do not help with the sleep cycle. as for the pdf, I mostly read research articles so I may just read the text portions to see if that works for me. I still have a lot of books to read anyway so I guess I don't mind if I can't do pdfs.

do you have the one with glowlight? if you do, how helpful is it compared to the one without?

I find any kind of light that I use to either glare or not be bright enough to light the whole screen. I thought the glowlight was an awesome idea, but reviews about how well it works haven't been outstanding. also, any nicks in the screen really show up with the glowlight. So I've decided to not upgrade just yet

There was talk that they might be going out of business eventually. I don't know if there is any truth behind it but their holiday sales were nowhere near what they had wanted and there is also this:

In any event, I have the NST and debated upgrading to a glow but after seeing the comparisons with the Paperwhite I think I will go that route.

yeah I did notice the reviews seem less than favorable for the light...
when you say light, do you mean lighting inside room or LED light attachment? just making sure
