Audioengine D1 DAC: As low as $119 @ massdrop.com
Massdrop.com has the Audioengine D1 USB/Toslink DAC for as low as $119
if 12 people buy (29% off MSRP of $169, which pretty much everyone sells
for). The current price is $146. Shipping is $7 and you might have to pay
tax in some states (I had to pay CA tax the last time I purchased an Audioengine
produce from Massdrop.
So, I'm big into audio but not so much home theater. All of my stereo equipment is fairly vintage and high end and put together for listening to music (running my tv through it is an after thought). Up until now, it's been fine, because my plasma has RCA audio out, so my PS3, 360, etc. run HDMI to the TV, the TV acts as the DAC, outputs to the stereo, and everything is good.
I've been thinking about upgrading my TV, my only issue is most TV's don't come with analog audio out these days. Does anyone have a recommendation for a DAC that I could run between the optical out on a TV and my pre-amp? This one has to draw power from a computer to run, correct?
Also, are there any solutions to serve digital audio through a DAC like this over a network? Take into consideration, I'd still want the optical input for my TV. I've got 2000+ cds I've been wanting to rip lossless. It'd be cool if there was something small/cheap like a Raspberry Pi that I could plug in and use as a controller/audio streamer. A Raspberry Pi wouldn't have enough juice to power something like this, would it?
