Men that willingly have sex with other men are generally gay but that is not necessarily a definition of gay when you change the underlying details and take someone that prefers woman sexually but has sex with a man due to some other payoff, dare, whatever. If your wife 'experimented' in college with another girl, yet never did it again and prefers men, by your definition she would be gay, but to every, normal, thinking adult would consider her straight, that is if you're not the type of person trying to play fast and loose during a debate to 'win' a point.

Because the govt decided a long, long time ago to recognize such unions & grant them "special" benefits for the purpose of establishing stable family units for the raising of kids & the promulgation of society as a whole.

One can make the argument that govt should never have done that. But that's a very different debate than whether the special benefits currently enjoyed should be extened to same-sex marriages.

Gays aren't prohibited by law to enter into a straight marriage. I guess it's okay for gays to get their marriage, but not for single people to get the benefits of marriage. Why should I be punished by paying a higher tax rate for not getting married?

Previously, married couples paid a higher rate than singles becaused their standard deduction was *less than* twice the standard deduction for a single person. No. It's as simple as men that LIKE to and prefer sex with other men are gay. Men that don't have such a preference are considered bisexual and men that have a preference for woman are heterosexual. If you suck some guy for $1 million, the act itself is gay, but it happens to have been done by a heterosexual man (I'm assuming). Doing something distasteful for a shit ton of money doesn't mean you prefer it now.
