Same-sex military couples to receive new benefits.

WTF. Granted it's been a while since I've been in... But, it used to be you only received benefits when you are MARRIED.

My reason for posting is not should they receive benefits, I'm just curious if anyone knows how long the same-sex couple has to be together before they can apply? My husband is military (24 years), and was told by his command that benefits would be extended to those couples that had been together for as little as 6 months.

We're curious because we know several military guys that live with their girlfriends. One couple even has a child together but are not married. They have been together for years.

Anyhow, extending benefits to same sex couples if fine but how are they going to argue against benefits for couples that are not of the same sex? It just doesn't seem fair to say "okay, you've been together for 6 months and we're gonna give you housing and privileges, but you over there that have been together for years, nope, not gonna offer you squat."

I fully agree with this policy, I don't think anyone actually disagrees, except to say that it's not feasible for as long as most states don't allow gay marriage.

The rules should be identical for both orientations. If 6 months is the standard, that should also be the standard for straight couples, not marriage.

I understand that. I just want the most equal policy possible. I know marriage isn't legal in all states, but either that shouldn't matter and marriage or civil union should be required, or everyone should follow the same rules and not have to be married/in a civil union.

Laughing all the way to the bank, perhaps. Homosexuals supported 0bama 3:1 in the 2012 election. As is the case with single mothers (who support 0bama by an even higher ratio) , the Democrats want to create as many as possible.

But the issue here, as I see it, is whether the government can create more homosexual behaviour by incentivising it. As with most human behaviour, I expect they can.

If your concern is people committing fraud in order to gain benefits they would not otherwise enjoy, then are you similarly concerned about hetersexuals committing fraud in order to gain benefits they would not otherwise enjoy?
