Got mine for $99.99 shipped from the 1/25/13 sale. Very nice sound. You will still need a sub with these, so glad I already had one. Great value speakers. Using them as fronts in my family room on my main HT setup. Onkyo TX-NR509 5.1, Polk Audio CSi3 Center, Bose 201V using as rears. Advent 10" Sub with aftermarket woofer since the origianl dry-rotted. I will gradually homogenize the system around the Center as time goes by. A great center for $100 form another Fry's deal about a week before the first Sony speaker deal. The Onkyo was a great SD found here from Amazon for $156 also.

Tempted to get another pair of these Sonys for the man cave.
My plan was to put these in there once I find a good deal on some Polk 75Ts for around $150, or even 65Ts for around $100. It may be a while...

If these shipped free it would be a no-brainer again. I am sure I could get back the investment from CL if I get a chance to upgrade later. If I still lived in Indianapolis, I would be picking up another pair. Problem is it gets tough to spend the money to upgrade once you get these for such a great price.

I thought front, center, rear, etc. all speakers should be from the same company for better sound. Can you mix and match?

Why not ? Each have its own frequency ,speaker brand does not matter.But this speakers has 4 speakers in it which will cover all ranges as mentioned below.
mid range - 300–5000 Hz
tweeter -2,000 Hz to 20,000 Hz
woofer -40 hertz up to about a kilohertz or higher
sub woofer -about 20–200 Hz

i used to own these and i regret selling them in the last move. great sounding speaker for the price. a friend owns the 7000's and they sound as good as my polks. great deal on a solid speaker

If I didn't have a pair of Jamo 426 sets, I'd get in on these. Great looking speakers and the price is hard to beat.

noob question... if your wanting surround sound, would you buy 7 of these? or are these only for the front 2?

It is very important to timbre match speakers, especially the front sound stage. Matching the surrounds is not as important. If your center does not match your mains a sound object moving across the front will change as it goes. So a car will racing from right to left will sound one way on the right speaker, sound different when it gets to the middle and change back once it hits the left speaker.

Even matching speakers by brand is no guaranty they will match if they are from different lines. It is best to buy the same line. Timbre matching different manufactures speakers can be done, but it is very difficult.

Just two. Typically, floor standing speakers are just used for the main/front channels. And you're not going to want to use this as your center channel. I guess you COULD use floor standing speakers for your surrounds, but it's not really typical in a 5.1 or 7.1 setup unless you have a LOT of room to play around with and are going for a ton of boom.

You could buy 7, but you need to make sure that the one you are using as center channel will fit under your display and that you have room for 4 of them in the back on the sides as surrounds.

Audioholics recommends using the same speaker for all 3 front channels, but it is not common practice as a tower as a center usually does not fit physically below the display. http://www.audioholics.com/educat...er-designs
