I don't think that is the case

California charges tax on everything shipped to California, yes. . .

But the offer tweet you get back from AMEX (for the fireHD) says "$149.99 including tax" so I don't think it matters where you live, they are including the tax in the price (for me it would be $140ish plus $9.xx in change) so really it's better than $150 flat deal, as your state will get some tax dollars.

Yeah I saw the fine print, but here is the tweet:

They are pretty good at correcting their mistakes if you are charged tax. Just have to call them. Yes the T&C shows + tax, but it is a generalization given that people in normally taxed states are not being charged tax. . .the T&C is also in direct contrast to the offer or "sales sticker" if you will. I'm sure they would rather eat the $10ish for the few that are charged tax AND call them on it than take a bunch of opened kindles back from pissed off customers (who would be right to return it with the change in offer)

Also, if you check your Amex authorization, it is from Links Unlimited, Inc. out of Cincinnati OH. They started with sporting goods (golf obviously) but have grown. They are the ones actually warehousing and selling this deal. That is why all the states you would think would be taxed on the deal are not. Sorry Ohio, but please confirm if you are charged tax.

man this thing lags like crazy. great sound and beautiful display tho. If you have amazon prime membership this deal is a no brainer if you need a mini tablet

i received my kindle fire hd the other day. it took about a week to deliver after receiving the confirmation email. also seems like its the version without ads. so pretty good deal to me.

Don't beat yourself up too much. I am a techie and I was not about to try and jump through all these hoops to save a few bucks. I am not a fan of buying things using hashtags. No Thanks Amex.
