It looks to outperform your current chip by about 20-30%. I'd say save your money and invest in an SSD over upgrading this chip. If you already have a SSD, a $100~ investment for a 20-30% performance boost (if that's all you have to buy for your motherboard, i.e. your mobo is compatible with 125W chips and socket am3) is pretty nice - especially considering you could sell your existing X4 840 for $50-$60 and save even more.
The othet option is a fx6300 for about $150 with a 970 board...still thinking about it....already have a SSD, so I can skip that o ne
I have been running a 1100t on a 95W TDP board for about 1.5 years now. They will generally work at stock with the lower W, just don't expect to OC it(I can get about .2Ghz over before it starts having problems).
Interesting....not sure if my board suppports 95w or more...ill have to check
