Cross-type has nothing (or very little) to do with moving subject. As the name suggests, cross-type sensor has both vertical and horizontal sensor patterns (crossing) used detect any contrast in the frame.

A simple way to put this is, if a non-cross-type sensor only has vertical patterns and you try to focus on a vertical line, the sensor is very less likely to detect it. Adding horizontal patterns to make it cross-type will ensure that the contrast of the vertical line will cut across the sensor detectors making it possible to perform autofocus function.

BTW, I have owned almost all Canon DSLRs (except the Rebel line) since the release of D30 in 10+ years ago. And right now I'm using 5D3, 6D and 7D. I can tell you that you won't be disappointed with the 6D. Its autofocus system, although very similar to that of 5D2, performs very well in low light. And that's not just the center focus point, but also all outer focus points. I bought mine when there was a 10% deal with Amazon in December. Got it to use as my 2nd body and don't regret it one bit. BTW, noise at high ISO is a tad better than 5D3 as well.

I'm also very happy with my Canon 6D. I had a 7D before... the 6D performs very well & the low light capability & high ISO is far better than anything I've had before and that's a big deal.

Only thing I don't like is that there is no articulating LCD.. otherwise all the reviews seem pretty sound. Hmm...

I guess I missed it. Showing up at 2499. now for the camera/lens combo. Amazon looks like they matched the 2399. price but tax kills the deal for me. I guess I have to watch the forums more often.

B&H has it for $2399 as well with a memory card/bag

Deal is back to $2399 but with a different bag. Just received mine yesterday and so far it feels like a very decent upgrade from my 5D MkII. Looks like my MkII is going on ebay soon :-)
