Its because it is electronic. the lifetime only applies to basic hand tools (all it ever has)

wouldl you guys trust this? i'm in the market for a torque wrench but was looking to get one of the clicking style ones. I have a feeling that the digital part of this wrench will crap out in no time, especially seeing that alot of digital torque wrenches are hundreds of dollars.

But ninety days? I think a year would be appropriate for Craftsman?

Only goes to 80 foot pounds of torque. Not enough for a lot of auto specifications. Axle nuts take 130-160 ft lbs for example. This is good for most lug nuts for wheel changes. Not worth it to me.

I have been thinking about the Harbor Freight ones, but the reviews are iffy. On the other hand, I won't use mine much, and I have a HF near me, so I could just exchange it for the rest of my life. Seems better than to be stranded with an electronic torque wrench that is more expensive to fix than to repurchase and the Sears guys telling you "sorry" after ninety days.

I've read the Amazon [amazon.com] version is pretty nice. I've been using the HF 3/8" clicker torque wrench [harborfreight.com] and recently picked up the Craftsman 3/8" beam torque wrench [sears.com]. I torqued something with the HF and then tested with the Craftsman and it seemed to be fairly accurate. From what I've read ALL torque wrenches can go out of spec just sitting in the box and should be calibrated every year. I think close enough is better than nothing for the vast majority of torque specs on cars (minus engine use).

It seems to be hard to find any sort of torque wrench for this price. I've needed one for a long time, so hopefully this one will do the job.
