I've read conflicting reports about this device.
I own an iphone5. Does this only support air play compatible apps? Basicly i want to know if this is the same as using an MHL adapter on the android end to output anything to the big screen. Thanks |

I installed this over the weekend and it works great on frodo. The regular xbmc plugin was a little sluggish so this developer tweaked a couple of things. I can't speak for all of the plugins on hub but I know a lot of them work. I also have amazon, free cable and LOTS of other plugins working flawlessly. |

Why are you guys bothering with Apple TV especially the 3rd Gen. "WD TV Play" will be out soon and for 70 bucks.
Combing the site for deals....while trying to make you laugh. If I made you laugh just thank me or give me reps. i suck at finding deals on the www.

Hell with Apple the future is Raspberry PI. Install XBMC on it and get whatever you will be getting after ATV 3 Jailbreak just for $35 you can get Raspberry Pi.
Rep if you agree! http://www.mcmelectron Last edited by tree_hugger; 02-12-2013 at 01:05 PM.. Reason: Link added |

Until the roku can stream local content, without having a pc running (and from what I can tell reencoding on the fly,) it's useless to me.
ATV3 with xbmc would be perfect but no jailbreak so it's moot. Raspi running xbmc seems perfect but you need a case +$15 and MCE IR adapter +$20 and then you have to deal with newark who are asses so all in $75+ and some hassle. Personally I'm sticking with my boxee box, sure it has been abandoned by its developers but it can handle netflix and my local media so I'm good. Ouya has HUGE potential but I'm waiting to see if netflix/hulu(not plus)/AmazonVoD get support before I jump to it. |

It is, but a significant number of people that buy this probably hardly use it. Despite having 2 iphones and 2 ipads in the house, I hardly use it. Nearly everything I can pull up on my phone/tablet I can pull up on the ATV. I've used it, and it is convenient, but hard to justify paying double for it. There's also a few more things to consider: 1) media servers like Twonky allow you to have an airplay-like experience on Roku, though it's not as polished and dummy-friendly as Apple software. 2) Some content is not available via Airplay. 3) A lot of home audio receivers have built-in Airplay support. Granted, not many people have $400 receivers, but it is a redundant feature for those people. |
