Yeah, stabilization makes a huge difference in video. Much moreso than with stills.

For video, unless you're using some kind of physical stabilization platform (tripod, steadicam or the like), IS is a godsend. Nobody's hands are perfectly steady, and while IS won't negate your shaky hands completely it will smooth out a lot of the worst jitters, and make your video look a heck of a lot better.

That wouldn't stop me from buying this lens for a Panasonic body, though. It's really small and this price is just too good to pass up. I don't think the IS is worth paying twice as much for a Panny equivalent.

Sweet deal, had to jump on this. Ordered it from Olympus directly. We have an E-M5 and mainly use the 12-50 kit so this should be a great secondary lens for outdoor shoots. Thanks!

You're admitting that you'd need to bump ISO up to 800 on a cloudy day (I personally find noise to be a good compromise against blurry images so that's an OK trade-off), and also assumed that you'll only use this lens outdoors on a sunny day. In reality, IS would be helpful and would have eliminated the need for high ISO and perhaps even use this lens indoors.

IS would have been less useful in a wider lens, something like the 28mm or 35mm, and therefore Canon is pretty ridiculous to charge hundreds to throw IS and USM on the latest 24mm/28mm/35mm lenses.

But hey, it's a bargain at $100. I wouldn't say IS is useless but I'd agree that you can't wish for much from a $100 lens.

I believe it's a more realistic review than "I use this on my Panasonic G2 without issue, and don't miss the image stabilization"

You're right...you can add it to your cart, but it's still OOS.

Still backordered and they have it on sale again albeit not $99 its at $150 now. Hopefully I get it someday!

I'm also still waiting. Going to send them another customer service email. It should be in stock for us by now... I don't mind waiting though.

EDIT: I'm actually going to wait 1 more week. I just reread the email they send me in February and it is the following:

"Thank you for your inquiry on the status of your backorder. According to the manufacturer estimates we expect to fulfill your order for xxx by 2nd week of March, 2013."

I'll give it until Thursday before they close down for the observed Jewish holidays for the weekend.
