Maryland Energy Star Tax Free Weekend Feb 16-18
If you are looking to replace a major appliance in the near future, and you live in MD or near the MD border, you might want to keep an eye out for SDs that you can stack with the upcoming tax free weekend. Buying locally is generally subject to a 6% sales tax.

Comptroller Peter Franchot on Monday announced the state's third annual weekend of tax breaks on certain Energy Star products.
The weekend of savings will begin at midnight Friday and run through midnight Monday, during which qualifying Energy Star products will be exempt from Maryland's 6 percent sales tax. Those products include:
Air conditioners
Clothes washers
Furnaces
Heat pumps
Boilers
Solar water heaters (tax-exempt at all times now)
Standard-size refrigerators
Dehumidifiers
Programmable thermostats
Compact fluorescent light bulbs
State officials said used items that fall under the qualifications will also be exempt, as will qualified items that are bought online.
"The legislators and others have put in this tax-free weekend for expensive appliances -- dishwasher, air conditioning units, etc. -- and we're encouraging everybody to shop Saturday, Sunday, Monday at locally owned businesses and you'll avoid the 6 percent sales tax. How great is that?" Franchot said.
Items that aren't exempt include wine chillers, dorm-sized refrigerators, microwaves, dishwashers, stoves, windows, doors and other building materials.
