SONY 17.3" laptop 1080p Notebook i5 3210M 6GB 500GB 7550M - 629.99 +FS

Disappointing that the GPU is on par with the Intel 4000.

Yeah I'm using my 2 y/o VAIO to type this. But I was ready to see how far it would fly from my second story window when I got it. The default touchpad setting is unusable. Speaks very poorly of Sony's designers if they are still shipped that way.

This is a great laptop for this price, with these types of specs you can use this for 3-4 years without a problem. also if you really want to get the best of this type of system adding your own SSD would future proof it for a lot longer. The GFX card while not as strong as a high end gaming PC, it will still play most newer games on medium settings at 30FPS which means very playable. This will have no problem whatsoever playing older games. Also people who video edit/photo shop will get great performance out of this laptop as well. Posted below are the stats on the GFX card. TU and repped for a great deal.

Read the reviews on Newegg about this laptop and you may not be all that impressed. It's just a small handful but I'd be a little leery.

I did and the reviews are not valid. One is from a person who never even received it yet. Another guy griping cause he cant put windows 7 on it, and the only one who has any real issue, no matter how weird, is getting electrocuted? So overall I would not be worried about the reviews. The guy who never got it yet, is griping cause the GFX card is not a class 2, or class 1 card, that could have been easily found out by doing a Google search.

Overall for almost every average and daily user this laptop would be great for and then some. Even some light to medium gaming, specially if the games are made for AMD architecture.

I did say "a little leery" as I know there can be some real idiots writing those reviews. But those customer experiences that are valid gives the impression that it "could" happen to me. In these cases, I usually just wait to see if there are more positive reviews along the way.

Does this laptop have an extra slot for an extra ssd? Or would you have to remove the old hdd?

Thanks for passing that along. I was thinking about buying the S-Series but the large mousepad was a major turn off. If you can disable accidental touchpad usage on the E-Series, I'm sure the same will apply to the S-Series.

i have one sitting next to me. ordered 1 for my g/f when it dropped from $650 to $640. now another $10 off is pretty good. We used the newcustomer coupon usually advertised on their homepage for another $10 off.

It's nice in that it has 1080p screen and backlit keyboard but obviously not as good of a gpu as other similarly or cheaper priced systems. also it doesn't appear any thinner or lighter or better constructed than the other comparable laptops. personally i'd go for a similarly priced lenovo, or an acer if it was much cheaper for the same performance...

NO there is no extra slot, you would have to remove the existing hard drive.

Honestly I don't even know why they didn't just stick with HD 4000 for this laptop as the performance in gaming is superior and most other applications it wins too.. =\

The only thing that the best buy notebook has in common with this one is the screen size . It;s an i3 compared to this i5, it's Toshiba vs Sony Vaio, No dedicated video ...

Better graphics card? Sure
1080p resolution? Good luck. (The best you'll be able to find is probably 1600x900.)
