If you're on the fence about buying an AMD hexcore vs an Intel quadcore, you need to determine what is important to you. Are you gaming? If so, the vast majority of games are very poorly optimized for dividing up work for multiple cores. Each of Intel's cores are more powerful than AMD's individual cores. AMD is superior in highly threaded tasks like video rendered and anything Adobe. If you're not a gamer and you're not working with intense media applications, you shouldn't pay a premium for Intel. If you're gaming with a sub-$200 GPU, you shouldn't pay a premium for Intel. If you're going to buy a high end video card, you should be concerned about becoming CPU limited. If you're buying a new video card over $200, you should invest in an Intel processor. |

AMD FX "8 core" is 4 FPUs and 8 integer units. it's really 4 "modules" (cores) with two integer units and shared L2 and resources......theyre somewhat comparable to Intel's 4 cores with hyperthreading
