Acer Aspire V3-571G-6407 Notebook i5 4GB 500GB - $499

Oh nice Dedicated video on a 3rd gen i5 laptop, delicious. Sad the max res is only 1366 x 768.

anyone know if this has a backlit keyboard?

I'm assuming you can't "force" a larger resolution? I would love the dedicated gfx. add 4 gb of RAM and replace the HDD with a SSD and this would be a nice laptop

For $499 this is EXACTLY what I'm looking for (15 or 17 inch, i5 or i7, discrete graphics) but it shows up as $549 for me. Resolution isn't an issue for me. I'm quite used to the 1280x800 on my 3.5 year old Acer Extensa 5230E. 1366x768 is bigger enough but 1600x900 would be better, so I think I will hold out for the 17 inch, Core i7 version with GT650m, currently listed at $749

GT630M is great, but GT650M has about double the power. It pairs well with a quad core i7 3rd gen. I have $600 saved specific to a new laptop and maybe that one will drop to $699 about the time I have $700ish to spend. If not, the $549 one at $499 is a good deal and it would leave me some cash to pick up an SSD. Some V3 series Aspires have two drive bays, after all. The 17 inch ones for sure.

If you want a higher res like 1600x900, are ok with Core i5, and still need discrete graphics, this $649 one might suit your needs and may come up $599 during the next sale:

Beat you to it, Mav, I've been looking at those newer ones with the 730M and they seem to perform like a 640M which is a good thing. I am trying to get everything though, 17 inch at 1600x900 or better, quad core i7, discrete graphics. Right now that's a $739 computer with the GT640M GPU:

I have seen similar refurbished ones on eBay anywhere from $649 to $729 the last week. I might be willing to spend a bit more to get it brand new instead, but I am cheap, and if I can get a used one for $550-$600, or a refurb for $650, I'll do it. Best at the moment is $699:

I've found a running white Ford Gran Torino station wagon for $800 which is just like my sedan and I think I want to get that and hold off on the laptop for a couple months. It's easy to find a laptop deal. It's not easy to find Torino wagons in any condition let alone running and driving for less than three grand. This sucks, I was all set to get a new laptop and now this.

Acer has a sale on their 9809 with free shipping. Full quad core i7 with the more powerful Geforce GT 650M and a 17.3" screen for $750. The performance jump from the i5 to that i7 and the 730m to the 650M are considerable for $100. Not to mention the laptop supports up to 16 gigs of ram, one guy in one of the reviews suggested it could go up to 32. That is pretty much the whole package there.

LOL... they call 7 lbs "super-light". Good specs, if you don't mind the weight.

Cheapest laptop that still has a decent GPU. Screen resolution is goofy but oh well. Amazon has a 4GB RAM upgrade for $25.

My last desktop was based of an i7-2600k@4.2Ghz, and two GTX 570's in SLi, and this laptop is good enough for me. Should be here by friday
