Haha, guess I'm stubborn in my old ways. My big concern is how well the hardware was executed. Playing with the S3 and OneX last year really left a bad taste to Qualcomm's sound processing; on very sensitive IEM's, you can hear the ticks and beeps bleed from the processor as it was loaded. My hope is that a discrete DAC would put more distance between the two to reduce bus noise.
Despite my concerns, its good to know that the 920 is an exceptional cut from the same die
I use a Klipsch X10 IEMs when I'm on the go if that helps.
If you're dead set on a DAC in the US market I think your options are nearly all external. A GS3 supports low power USB DACs (ie a Fiio E7 but not E17) or you can always get that redonculiously expensive DAC case for an iPhone.
