Does anyone worry that your video is sent thru http (unsecured) vs htpps (secured).?

I would not recommend these as baby monitors. We bought this as a puppy monitor when we got our 8 week old Golden Retriever puppy and used the IP Cam Viewer app on IOS and Android to monitor him downstairs while we were upstairs. While it works great for video, audio can drop occasionally, especially if the camera is further away from the subject.

A dedicated baby monitor is certainly a better option, with better features and ease of use and reliability. I would still use this as an additional way of viewing your baby and making sure everything is okay, but I'd highly recommend you get a regular baby monitor as well. I would not trust the FOSCAM to be reliable for such a task , and it certainly isn't designed or built to be a baby monitor.

I will work on a few prototypes. I can use clear plexi or even some smoked plexi (like sunglasses) to protect the camera from the sun, they even have a plexi that is UV resistant (don't know if it actually filters UV rays). I can route, heat bend, solvent plexi, PETG, polycarbonate, etc.

What about winter weather though? I highly doubt this is designed to withstand outdoor temperatures. I think the Sun is just one aspect of things. Humidity, high/low temperature, temperature cycling, etc would also all be factors that one would need to work around. I doubt that the camera and sensor packaging has been designed for outdoor specs.

Then again, if you're lucky to live in a place with great year round weather, it may work

Image quality is pretty bad and the response time is off by a half a second or a full second. The night vision is also pretty bad. I would pass on this.

That is my concern with condensation (fogging) if I don't include some ventilation near the top of the casing. I am in Chicago and I know it won't last long outdoors even with a casing (rusting of the inside components, etc.). I can live with it if the camera last at least 1-2 years. It would still be cheaper than buying an outdoor wireless camera (over $250).
I am planning on having mine under an eave so it won't get direct rain/snow and even only sun part of the day not all the time.

We have been using this as a baby monitor (in white) and it has worked flawlessly. We use IP Cam Viewer on my Android and Baby Monitor HD on our iPad (both paid apps). It saved us a bundle on a dedicated video monitor and we have one less device to keep track of, since we use the iPad at home. No issues with audio dropping.

Exact same setup here. The audio leaves a BIT to be desired, but I'm sure an external mic would help with that.

I like the CamViewer App for IOS as well. On Android IP Cam Viewer is probably the best.

still waiting for good 720p and H.254...returned too many of these for poor image quality.

Foscam has the FI9821W on their website (www.foscam.us) that's 1280 x 720, might help you out if you're looking for something higher quality.

I just got my last two setup outside, one under an eave watching my backdoor, the other on my porch watching my front walk. I'm really satisfied with them. I am actually amazed at how well the one on my front porch picks up audio.... I was able to hear someone talking on their phone in the yard next door very clearly. That makes for 5 of these that I now own, and I've been satisfied with all of them

if you dont have them in domes they will only last so long. the elements/bugs will eventually ruin them.

any idea if thesewill work with a qnap nas?
