This is why your argument is a failure. By the very nature of making this post on Slickdeals, you are failing to understand that the vast majority of people here are the "adverse selection" or the "unwanted customers" by these types of companies. People here in most cases are not blindly throwing money at warranties or anything else without a reasonable expectation of a payoff. The TV I purchased from sears was originally $3100, slickdeal posted for $999. In 4 years a mid grade 60" LCD will still be $1000. It might be a 4k resolution no glasses 3d model, but it will still be a grand at least. The end point is, as you say, these are not "needs", so if you can afford a $1000 tv, then spending another $150 on warranty which might seem unnecessary is something else you can afford as well. Maybe 3 years down the road I am broke and sitting at home collecting an Obamacheck and my tv breaks... Then what? Unless they have new government run tv repair facilities, I might not have even that $150 for a repair. At least with my warranty I can use my Obamaphone to call Squaretrade. |

I bought a ST warranty on a new Apple Macbook Pro. I got the warranty when they were offering 30% off with no cap. So instead of $299, I paid $209.
Do any of you have any real world experience with Apple that can comment on whether I need this? This is my first Apple notebook. The drawback to Applecare for the Macbook is I paid significantly under retail because it was an open-box. ST will limit me to the price paid if I have a claim. The drawback to Applecare is they don't cover accidents. The drawback to both is I'm either out $209 or $244 for something I may not need. Also, first one to PM me can have my code! ![]() In 4 years, you will still be able to purchase a basic non-4K model, even a used one on eBay or CL that matches the value of your failed unit in its pre-failure state. And it certainly won't cost $1,000. Also, you are hilarious and I commend that. And if you are broke on Obamalife 2.0 in 3 years, you aren't going to be worrying about getting a 60" 4K LED. Instead, you will be kicking yourself in the rear repeatedly for not having saved the $150 for a warranty on your still-working TV that you are trying to sell in order to buy bread and toilet paper. You and your neighbors will then end up burning your TVs in an outdoor bonfire in order to stay warm, releasing toxic gases into the atmosphere in an unintended negative consequence of the Obamalife plan. |

Don't think of it as a warranty, think of it as insurance. I'm sure I've 'wasted' thousands of dollars over the years in insurance premiums with negligible return because I rarely ever get sick or injured.
HOWEVER, without insurance, I like many of us here on slickdeals could be one horrific traffic accident away from bankruptcy. That said, I agree that most of the things that we're insuring with SquareTrade are wants rather than needs, I doubt any of us has any interest in replacing our good at full price or waiting again for the 'awesome deal' we're hoping to insure. They may not be necessities, but that doesn't mean we're just willing to throw them away because a child forgot to put on the wrist strap while playing on the Wii. |
