I have had one for years.. it's really cool but I don't use it as much as I thought I would. Also, the plastic will definitely get discolored permanently if you microwave it, so I would advise heating the contents in a pot or something and just dumping it into the plastic container after.

These are probably decent if you work at construction sites or other places where you don't have immediate access to microwaves and want something better than sandwiches in a cooler. Temperature retention is only OK (you're going to have lukewarm food vs cold), and it's a pain to clean properly. I still have them but haven't used them for years; glass-lock containers are much more useful if you don't mind the additional weight.

the other stainless steel ones mentioned in the thread seem to be individual thermos boxes, not a big jar containing 2-3 smaller stainless cups/bowls..

If it's SS inside and out then you can't microwave the food. Maybe ceramic type bowls on inside would be good.

I have one, and while it is nice, I don't really use it to its fullest potential. I have a microwave at work, so I prefer bringing glass containers with my reheatables.

Are these leak proof?

I have several dark gray version (don't remember the model #). The cups are made of plastic, the jar is stainless steel...I think. Mine retains heat and yes...it also retains odors after period of time. I didn't use baking soda to wash it though...

Try Japanese market like Mitsuwa (www.mitsuwa.com) or Chinese Herbal Shop TS Emporium www.tsemporium.com. I believe they can only found in Southern California. I am sure there are many Japanese/Chinese shop out there who sell this lunch jar.
