Saw it last night. If you expect it to suck its watchable. Does not hold a candle to the original.
Boivin (boy'-vin) v.
1. v. an action that doubles a previous big action, or raises it to a large degree. He rented a military Hummer for the woods, but then I rented a Tank. That was a boivin. ( in order to qualify for a boivin, the original action must be big too.) The origins can be traced to an Michigan attorney, but from there specific origins run into secrecy due to laws of whivsiv (what happens in vegas...) and bbh (bro's before ho's) |

I love this movie. It's awesomely entertainingly cheesy. The women fight in skin tight stuff pretty much non-stop and unlike the Ahnold version you don't have to engage your brain.
This movie gets crapped on IMO because people were expecting the same basic storyline as Ahnolds, and it's not even remotely close. Most of the main character and plot points are entirely different. Quaid is different, even Hauser's character is VASTLY different. 3 boobs in tremendously higher res and more "real" looking? YESSSSSS. Even that scene is WAY different. No touchy touchy. Also, no mutants or any of the philosophical quandaries or questioning. Air is not a problem and Mars is mentioned in passing once as a nod to the original. Entire movie is on earth. Don't go in expecting a cover of the 90's version and you may very well like it. It's a fluffy action flick with hot chicks and $%&# blowing up for no discernable reason. Additionally, robots, a crap ton of robots AND Bryan Cranston. Donation is the Alpha not the Omega Lifetime member of the Daisybeetle fan club. i've watched the first one like twice and this one is definitely better. I don't understand why the first one is so heavily favored in peoples minds. For $1...definitely a no brainer. Just don't go in there thinking best stuff ever ok? I just think people hate colin ferrell.

Both this movie and the "Ahnold version" follow different elements of the short story they're both based on. Personally I think this one is overall truer to Philip K Dick's broader works and particularly the spirit of the main story it's modeled from, "We Can Remember It For You Wholesale." The "Ahnold" one goes off the deep end on the mars angle. This one focuses more solidly on the social conflict and psychological concepts rife in Dick's works and the secret agent and reality question angles (including his "wife"), which in many ways are far more central to the original piece than the part about the mission causing the Rekall conflict having taken place on Mars.
Whether it's a good movie is another question of course It felt a little jarring between action and plot advancement, but I expected that going into it. Blade Runner (based on Do Robots Dream of Electric Sheep) it was not, but to me it felt closer than the original Total Recall at least. I thought it was fairly fun for cheap, and for $.99 would have happily rented it.
