And it's funny you say that, most watch stores I have been to, in new york, CT even in burmuda sell bulovas right next to seiko. LOL they all must not know much about jewelry.

can you also give me things to look at/watch for on the watch to tell quality? I've own bulovas and seen seikos, is there visually a difference that will tell me quality?

Of course! If you came to the store to buy a watch, first we'd try to upsell you. Then if that didn't work, we'd tell you the "merits" of the Bulova brand, leaving out all of the dirty truths behind the current Bulovas.

ok, so quartz movement is different in each watch, but why is seiko better? I am just trying to get facts. upselling is the reason why I want facts, i want to be informed. Not just told it's junk, but why? you haven't answered why.....

More reliable, less power consumption, more fluid movement, etc. Ultimately, the movement is not the only area where Bulova [by Citizen] has cheaped out on their watches. The build quality leaves much to be desired. Cheaper o-rings, more fragile stems, and industrialized craftsmanship are all considerations when buying a nice watch.

A watch is not just a timepiece. If all you want is a timepiece, go buy a $15 watch at Walmart. If you want elegance and luxury, braggadocio and achievement awareness, you must avoid being blinded by the thought that just because it has some diamonds on it, you will garner respect. The types of people that recognize and appreciate a fine timepiece will absolutely not respect one wearing this type of garbage. One look at the black dull diamonds, or hearing the giveaway ting ting sound of a hollow band will earn you nothing more than, "Oh that's nice." out of politeness, if you're pointing it out. A REAL feeling of accomplishment comes from the people you DON'T know, randomly stopping you and saying, "That's a nice watch", or "Cartier Roadster, wow". Even my first gen Seiko Kinetic or old original Movado museum Esparanza gets comments.

The feeling is very nice, knowing you have a quality timepiece that will last for years and years and years. I have an antique 1961 Movado gator strap spring wound that I can still wear today and people will know exactly what it is without asking. If you still want to buy one of these, feel free. Mark my words, after a short while you will think to yourself, "I want an upgrade".

My Geneva quartz keeps good time, and I got change back from a 5 dollar bill when I bought it.

It gets lots of attention from people feeling sorry for me...

Trust me when I say nobody is feeling sorry for you or laughing at you. Most likely, anyone that sees your watch either 1. Doesn't care, or 2. cares even less than "doesn't care".

The truth is you don't get laughed at just for wearing a cheap watch. It works like this:

Cheap watch that looks stupid:
indifference/disgust, depending on the person
Cheap watch that looks nice:
indifference, no matter who they are
Cheap watch made to look expensive:
admiration/laughter, guys with CZ studs in their ears/everyone else respectively
Expensive watch that looks stupid:
snicker, and mumbling that you have money but no taste
Expensive watch that looks nice:
admiration, either in the form of respect or the form of jealousy

I recognize sarcasm. When posting a comment online however, it is read literally the majority of the time. Unless you clearly identify your comment as sarcasm, you shouldn't expect one to assume so.

Sounds like you know a lot about watches but it seem like you are comparing these newer bulova models against your older Movado/Seiko time pieces. I'm sure most things that were manufactured a decade ago are better than today's cheap manufacturing. So it doesn't seem like you give these watches a fair comparison.

You said that the parts in a newer Seiko model is far superior than the parts inside a newer bulova model....what kind of test did you perform to come up with that verdict? Do you really have two models from each brand side by side and wait for years to see which one would get the time wrong first? I highly doubt it.

Now move on to the Luxury feel, you seriously think that Seiko is more luxurious than Bulova? Assuming that Seiko has better parts than Bulova like you said, I'm sure the majority of people will still perceive that Bulova as a more luxurious brand than Seiko. The majority of people will not know the inside-industry information like yourself.

I know these watches are not very luxurious jewelry, but what do you expect out of $138? Even though I appreciate your informative feedback, but I'm sure these watches are not "GARBAGE". Maybe they are garbage if you compare to a classic movado watch that cost at least 10x more. You're like a ferrari owner calling mercedes garbage... LOL.

In any event, these bulova watches are really nice for how much they cost. I know everyone has his/her own expectation, but do you really expect a watch that cost less than $300 to last more than a decade?
