I have a pretty high tolerance for suspending disbelief, but I just couldn't sit through this movie without thinking: "This is totally dumb." Not trying to rain on anyone's parade; just trying to warn you what you're in for. My best slick deal: law school tuition

In Predator's case, the UHEd reviews are doubly relevant since there is an earlier, better (but still not great) version of Predator available with filmic detail intact. Sorry for the longish post. Not trying to be argumentative, just want to set the record straight. |

Is it me, or does this feel like what Die Hard should be like of these days

I did not really enjoy LForDH. I'm a pretty big Die Hard fan. Seen each of the first 3 movies at least 20 times each. I agree that #2 is my least favorite of the 3. I think the Order of my liking is Die Hard 1, Die Hard 3, Die Hard 2, Live Free or Die Hard, The Hottie and the nottie, and A good day to die hard. I do like the switch in die hard 2. I never really saw the army guys being bad until it happened. |

For me, the new movie was unignorably bad. I know it's an action flick, so I wasn't expecting Oscar-worthy acting or beautiful cinematography, and I afforded it suspended disbelief because I enjoy explosions and gunfights on screen as much as the next guy. But I did expect a nominally reasonable plot to explain why the bad guys are being bad or why so much stuff is blowing up. And this movie did not deliver that. There's plenty of gunfire and explosions and damage, sure. If that's all you care about, and you don't mind a plot that has you asking "Wait, why would he do that?" or thinking "That was entirely ridiculous and totally unbelievable" several times throughout, then by all means, go for it. You'll probably enjoy it. But if that's the case, you might as well watch one of those "craziest car wrecks" or "natural disasters caught on tape" shows on TV or YouTube. I don't want to spoil the movie for people who plan on seeing it, so I'm avoiding going into specifics. I generally consider myself pretty forgiving on movies, and this one stuck out as particularly bad. It's one of a small handful of movies I would actually tell people to not even bother watching. That's my opinion. Hope this helps. |
