I guess I have some further research to do, but am I understanding correctly that the DisplayPort doesn't replace an HDMI port, and the displayport is for connecting a video source to the monitor for playback? Something other than the computer?

At this resolution, is there any difference between DVI (the cable that it includes) and DisplayPort?
I guess what i am asking is should I buy a different DVI or DisplayPort cable at the same time?

DisplayPort is for computers. It is a more recent option that you will find on a lot of Macs and some PCs. Thunderbolt=DisplayPort+some high speed data transfer(my understanding).

There is about 0.5" worth of bezel on the top/sides. Which is great, and thinner than the vast majority of monitors, but not what I would consider virtually no bezel (which is what the newegg pictures depict). Check out these photos of the S2340:

Both clearly show more bezel than newegg's photos.

Edit: I realize that we might be misunderstanding each other, as the monitor gives the appearance of no bezel on the top/sides due to edge to edge glass, but this is only when the monitor is off. The screen itself is not edge to edge.

DVI, DisplayPort, and HDMI all send a digital signal which means that cable quality should not be a big deal over short distances. There may be some features, like internet over DisplayPort, that require a specific cable, so do your research. The DVI cable that came with my u2312hm appears to be high quality.
If you have an HDMI device to connect I would use an HDMI to DVI cable. My understanding is that those video signals a basically the same.
I recommend monoprice.com for cables.

I am in the market for a new monitor also and still haven't made up my mind. I am looking for something with a 16:10 aspect ratio though and still debating.

Well I heard this monitor comes with a DVI single-link cable. I guess what I am trying to ask is, will that be sufficient for a resolution that this runs at? Or would an upgraded cable to DVI dual-link or DisplayPort have any type of difference?

Your answer is a single link Dvi cable will max out anything at 1920x1080
