What's the deal with all the DOA drives in the NewEgg reviews? I want these, but those reviews are worrisome (I know WD will warranty the stuff, but who wants to deal with that hassle).

Very nice. WD Reds are very reliable and make an excellent secondary drive or network drive.

Newegg doesn't pack hard drives well. Amazon and NCIX do a much better job, especially NCIX. I have 4 Red 3 TB drives from NCIX and they were packed so well I couldn't have done a better job myself. All 4 drives are perfect.

I've ordered 5x2TB WD Red drives and just recently 3x2TB WD Red drives. All came in an OEM box that held 24 drives originally with Styrofoam slots and plenty of paper packing. Every one of the 8 drives came in great condition and I was totally impressed with the packaging. It really does seem that they have fixed their shipping issues.

It's doubtful that Newegg has corrected its ways but whenever I used to order hard drives from them, they would put a bare hard drive in a very large, mostly empty box for shipping. To make certain that your hard drive will be DOA (or die shortly after), they hand it off to the brown soccer team. I've learned my lesson ordering drives from them and usually try to get them from any other vendor (just about any other package them much better) or better yet, a B&M location like Staples. When you factor in the slight savings you may get from buying hard drives at Newegg, it's totally negated by return shipping and/or restocking fees if you just want a refund (plus your funds are tied up for a few weeks if you go that route).

I was in on the Newegg $99 deal last month (http://slickdeals.net/f/5815092-W...X-99-FS-AC) and when I got my two drives:
Each drive was sealed in a box with the bubble wrap around the drive in a static bag
Each of those boxes were wrapped in paper wrap in a in a box that had slots to hold them upright and held securely.

Remember, for every 10 bad reviews there are probably 10 good reviews that were not made. I didn't put a review because mine are perfect.

OK, well maybe things have changed lately with Newegg (definitely good news). But this was not the case last year. Lots of complaints on Slickdeals and on Hard Forums (where I post as well).
