I ordered 2x 3TB WD Reds from Newegg on the $140 deal, and they came well packaged, but one was still DOA. Doubt that it was from shipping though. RMA'd it thru Newegg and the new one works perfectly.

Anyone try to get amazon to price match?

It could be because I ordered multiples. Both did some from the NJ warehouse. And I am curious how they ship if only one drive is ordered.

Ordered 3 blacks and 1 red (1 at a time) over the past 12 months from newegg. Each one came perfectly packaged, not a complaint or failure with one one them.

I also got the two 3TB for $140. 2 drives were slotted in styrofoam then bubble wrapped. You could tell the styrofoam was cut off from the original. I was worry about DOA too but like others I needed the drive. It was shipped from NJ to VA.

Bought 3x3TB drives recently...

They were shipped suspended by plastic trays on each end, inside a small box. That small box was then put into the generic newegg box, filled with about 5ft of brown paper rolled up and the box placed in the middle.

Clearly the box had room to tumble around a little bit while in transit.

However after using some smart tools on it for several hours per drive, they all came up healthy.

I used the term probably, which isn't definitive or exact. Who knows, really.
Simply looking at the reviews isn't the entire answer. Most people don't write positive reviews because that is what is expected. So people need to realize that what you see isn't representative of every buyer who bought the product. There could be 1000 more 5 egg/star reviews for all the good drives that made it but we'll never know.

If I receive bad service or a bad product I will talk to a supervisor, manager or customer service about it. That's what sucks in customer service jobs (waiters, tech support, phone jockeys, salespeople)...the manager hears one complaint about someone and never hears any accolades so that one complaint stands out more than all the happy customers that never say anything.

Just my two cents.
