[QUOTE=GoatSaver;57577154 I've never seen packaging that would damage a drive, nor had one DOA.[/QUOTE]
Totally disagree. |

WD's Shockguard/SecurePark: WD's ShockGuard™ technology protects the drive mechanics and platter surfaces from shocks during shipping and handling and in daily operation. WD’s SecurePark parks the recording heads off the disk surface during spin up, spin down, and when the drive is off. This ensures the recording head never touches the disk surface, resulting in improved long-term reliability due to less head wear and improved non-operational shock tolerance. |

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Pro...6822236344 Same shipping problem Pros: Great drives, I hope Cons: 3 out of 4 DOA, 4 drives shipped in a foam carton with bubble wrap? Really? Other Thoughts: Shipped loose with my Synology, can't say I am surprise they don't work and I don't feel great about #4 What is up with shipping? Pros: Great drives. Cons: What is up with Newegg shipping these free in a box with my Synology? Two of the drives are completely DOA, possibly due to moving all over the place. HORRIBLE NEWEGG! Many people have reported poor packing of hard drives by NewEgg in the past (I've even seen it for my own past orders) but these five drives were very well packed. They were in some of the "volume" foam as they shipped from the manufacturer and surrounded in bubble wrap and tape. I was very pleased with NewEgg's hard drive shipping for this order. Another Shipping failure Pros: One of two drives ordered is working great. Cons: Other is doa. So tired of trying to get drives through Newegg Shipping. Kraft paper does not do it. Need good penut pack around drive(s). First thing out the door they throw it on the truck. I tried overnight!!!! Box was still bashed in at one end. Now I have to waste time on returning one etc. TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Other Thoughts: Where can I get advanced drives at a great price? And get them shipped with Cons: Drive was dead on arrival. Packaging was a little messed up, and there was nothing under the drive. All of the packaging material was on the top. I should't have to pay for return shipping for something that died before I even got it. Cons: Shipping: External box arrived gently handled. Interior padded with crumpled paper on one side only. Second box inside the first loosely contained the bare drive wrapped in a mostly popped layer of bubble wrap. Upon unwrapping, the drive has 3 dents along the thin sheet-metal cover plate. Don't know how this will affect anything, drive seems to function ok for now, if a bit slower than I was led to believe. Speed: Drive can hardly sustain 80MB/s transfers, GPT w./ 4k blocks. I'll try again later using my SSD as the transfer source to see if it can write any quicker. Maybe I should change my block size? |

Heres the dumbest question ever on slickdeals:
I put 2 drives of 3tb each in my synology nas (DS213+). I can't tell if they are mirroring each other and only 2.7tb available OR if 1 drive is in fact bad. I hate that I don't have the time at night to spend on it to look into it but everywhere I look online it confuses me even more. That and my damn FIOS modem has every damn port blocked that I can't access the nas remotely - wtf is the point of it if Verizon locks me out. I'm SO close to switching internet providers for the SOLE reason of the modem. All the youtube, walk throughs tell you to open the port but my router doesn't have an "add" button in the port settings. Sorry, not the place to vent.. but other than my driveS showing only 2.7tb available they run fine. I haven't had any issue accessing them in my home or streaming from the nas to my laptop onto my big screen. So in that case the drives are great so far (only been 2 months). I bought the 3tb at Microcenter for $134.99 each. SLICKDEALS TO DATE:
Too many to name! |
