well...I use my eyes as the litmus test

and they say that the LG's are simply not as good as the best from Samsung( LED or Plasma) or Panasonic(plasma)

I consider the Panasonic LED's to be about the same level as the LG LED's

They are "below" competitive prices from Samsung /Sony/Panasonic

what technological advances have they made?

They were late to the party with motion interpolation( by two years)...then it took them another year to allow you to separate blur and dejudder functions

Then they make a 60hz panel and use a scanning back light, rather than true picture processing, to simulate motion interpolation....they still dont have a true 240hz panel( like Sony and Samsung) even in their highest models

I could go on...smart features..LED backlighting...etc..etc

The black level measurements on their plasmas TV's has never been high as Samsung or Panasonics

BUT...LG's are always less expensive

so what technological advances are you talking about...tell me what features LG was first to market with?

1. You would buy a Sony..there are some 20 plus year old Sony XBR's TVs out there that look better than any Sylvania, Goldstar product of the same time
2. Samsung would not even be a consideration for a TV

I got the $688 black friday deal from Walmart on a 60" Vizio and love it. Good TV for the money. Average tv in a home is approx 5 years before you buy a new one. I figure in 5 years the 4K models will be reasonably priced.

Black out curtains make a huge difference but this set does auto correct the picture based on lighting conditions. Glare is easy to control with a little thought.

wait for the panasonic P60U50 to go back on sale for $700 like it was before. WAYYYY better TV.

Thanks. The room is surrounded by windows with blinds, and a lot of light comes in. Maybe I would be better off with LED?

Tell me about it. I spent $2800 on a Sharp 65" set in 2008. Now they are going b/w $1200 and $1400...the 70" Sharp can be had for $1400 on a good day...but this is a phenomenal price for the 60" plasma. Just wondering, how low can it go ? Is there a profit to be had by LG at this price ? Or are they just undercutting prices to take a slice away from competitors ?
