I'd be willing to pay a little more for high quality generic, but there doesn't seem to be much of a market for that. |

The item I'm looking at from printpayless via Amazon includes 4 refillable Ink cartridges and 4 400ml bottles of "PrintPayLess Brand Anti-UV Bulk Refill Ink Specially Formulated for Brother: Cyan, Black, Magenta, and Yellow" for $29.80l+l$6.90lshipping = $36.70. So that's $36.90 / 4 = 9.23 per cart with roughly 3 (3.3 technically) refills, so equivalent to about $3 bucks a cart. And beyond 3 refills that cost will go down some since I already have the cartridges. The Amazon 68 cent carts are still the clean winner in cost per unit. But it's still much cheaper than OEM with virtually identical ink formula vs generic dye ink sans additives. Looking at Staples web site a single set of C/Y/M/BK OEM carts is $65-$70, depending on if you buy a color multipack, plus tax. So the refill carts are still looking potentially good to me. What I'm looking for is ink with the additives to prevent clogging. We must not print enough to keep this from happening. Now our inkjet printers have lasted a decent length of time using generic ink but eventually clogged, three of them now over maybe 7 or 8 years. If the OEM formula ink can extend the life of my printers a bit then I might come out ahead overall. |

But I wonder whether the PrintPayLess are simply generic ink marketed for Brother, rather than any particular formulation (i.e. overpriced generic refills like you find in various stores). It helps though to have a brand backing the ink. As for refilling Brother ink cartridges, I create enough of a mess taking out "low" ink carts...the ink seems to just spill out of the punctured hole if tilted. I'm not sure whether that's just due to the design of the generic ink tanks. |

I got this printer a while back, and the last two months I have been cashing in 10 cartridges at office depot to get the $20 rewards. I just logged into office depot *first time ive ever logged in* and it shows $0 for both of those transactions. does it get updated at the end of the quarter or am I getting ripped off by them?

I bought this printer for my wife for Christmas. We just started using it in Feb. Went through one black ink cart, tried to install a new one and we get the error message "Cartridge not detected". Error will not go away no matter what, I even tried using the other cartridges that were working. Waste of my money.

Wonder if it might turn out to be something simple and fixable though? Found a procedure on the Brother site which may or may not be helpful - click here [brother.com]. What cartridge did you use after the original ran out? Might not recognize the original if it's empty and if the replacement is one of those generics with the plastic film mentioned earlier that has to be punctured, maybe that wasn't done? Just guessing to try and help, it's nearly impossible to troubleshoot something remotely with little info. Good luck. Last edited by TexasFlood; 03-25-2013 at 08:12 PM.. |
