Hmm, ok. That's a good price for that TV. I'm not even seeing an option to buy the 55" ST50 through panasonic.com (regular or EPP). Best I've seen on other sites is $1299. Occassionally I've seen it for $1199.

Why no love? Is it because it's a preorder? Taxes suck but it's still as cheap as i've seen for the 2012 model...even now.

Plasmas will be here for another 5 years until OLED drops in price. Panasonic is pushing alot of R&D on LED while working with Sony. Japan will not let the koreans run the show when it comes TV tech and screens and will always produce a better product then i.e. Samsung/ LG . This is just my belief and sorry i do not have facts to put in here but I have been a loyal panasonic customer since 2006. I have not owned a single LED screen.

I have no doubt both the vt and ZT 60's will be a significant upgrade over everything, they have the 3,000FFD , the ZT has the studio master panel, same ultra panel for the vt and pro panel for ST, with no GT at all, the ST will be sold as the GT in European markets, which makes me think it MAY have the dual core processors but they may not considering the st 60 didn't get the bump up to the gt50's number of grey shades. The only real difference I see in the ST60 over the ST50/GT50 is that it uses the one sheet of glass design, which hopefully you can clarify for me but they used this on the 30 series for the ST, and then for whatever reason didn't for the 50 series except for in the VT50, whereas all 60 series but the plain S60 will use have the one pane design, what I am trying to really figure out, is in the case of the ST60, does the single pane of glass increase brightness and uniformity or is it just aesthetic and it only improves the PQ like that on the ZT because of the way the single pane design is bonded to the frame/bezel. My heads gonna explode lol, but it seems based on current specs that the gt50 will have a slight technological edge over the st60, including the processors and shades of grey, I don't think there will be a huge difference by any means but I essentially can get the st60 or the gt50 at the same price right now, , the gt50 is due to be delivered this week, so I'm just trying to figure out as much as I can and see if there's any real reason to go with the ST60 instead, and I mean PQ wise the smart tv functions are great and cool but are secondary considerations to me, and I have a feeling the gt and vt50 will be the only 2 pre-2013 models upgrade able to the new system via a simple firmware update, just because they have the silicon to support it, but we'll see.

I just added the 60" to my cart for $1444.99 and have it all the way to final checkout so if there was an issue they have seemed to fix it.

when i press "preorder" on the st60 i can get all the way to the order page, but it doesn't have anything whatsoever under the model #, looks like this

In terms of losses, they're minimal compared to Sony losing their shirt in the TV market (and signing off their stake in panel manufacturing to a third party as a result). Judging by the pre-order prices, prices are remaining largely the same, with the ST coming in somewhere between the old GT and VT panels at approximately the ST prices of last year. Given their stellar reviews and their majority foothold on TV PQ enthusiasts, I don't see them drowning anytime soon. Now if they could only have good enough PR to convince people that LED isn't the end-all be-all and that they weren't hawking technology from 2003... sigh...

Link is fully working again. I think I know why they took it down, the description they had originally posted had the feature image that the ST60 models used the Single glass technology. That was incorrect, as it is only for the higher end models. Although I am surprised they left the feature image of the touch pen as they had announced that would only be on the higher end models as well.

Okkkk now that would make sense, that's wild because that's the one thing I was curious about and that gave me pause in my GT50 purchase, all the other specs were the same as 2012 except for the software, and there was nothing to make me think the picture would be any different especially as the ST50 is technically 1-2 tiers lower on the chain than it was last year with the addition of the ZT and there being no GT, but the cheaper than ever price and lack of a CPU says that the ST60 will be the same, which is great, but the single pane of glass threw me for a loop and I just couldn't figure out how that fit in with all the other details about it and most importantly if that had any impact on PQ, I'm not happy that the ST60 doesn't have that, i am delighted to know now though so I can be satisfied with the 50" GT50 for under 1k

Agreed 100%, and Its clear they haven't stopped development or R&D, in fact, I'd bet they actually continue to grow it to try and get to the point where it's clear if you want a cheaper alternative to OLED but better quality than LCD, plasma is that way to go, and I hope they get there too. Also, aren't the ST models in fact much cheaper this year and not about the same price or is that incorrect

All I want to know is if the ST60 will be less prone to IR than the 2012 Panny plasmas. Seeings as it has been reported to use the GT50 panel, would it be safe to assume no?

My only issue with the ST60 is by all accounts its spes are exactly the same as last years ST50, the site shows it using the same panel as well and is missing everything of the VT and ZT but we won't have a GT model this year, It was suspected that the US ST60 would be sold as the euro GT60 but its now clear that at least in Britains chunk of Europe they will have the full lineup except for the equivalent to last years UT which doesn't seem to exist.

Who cares, well the GT clearly is an improvement over the current GT, using what they call the hexa processing engine and the improved panel with Red phosphors greatly increasing brightness and 3,000HZ FFD and even if it stays at last years levels of colors of gray/Color space it's still greater then the ST60's.

I have no issue with the GT getting those upgrades they all make perfect sense....the ST60 however seems to be stagnant making the US market have to jump to the VT to get any real improvements, I'm struggling to understand the logic here....if there was a GT60 available it would be pre-ordered right now.
