The Oregon Senate Judiciary Committee this morning passed all four gun control bills.

SB 347 - Allows School Districts to prohibit CHL holders from carrying on school grounds. Provides exemption for parents dropping off or picking up children from school, provided they do not enter the school building.

SB 699 - Prohibits open carry in the Capitol and other public buildings as defined in the bill. Allows for concealed carry in those places

SB 700 - Universal Background Checks

SB 796 - Requires CHL training to be delivered in person, prohibits delivery of training by remote means (internet, video, etc...)

In order for these bills to move forward they must pass the full Oregon Senate, then the State House.

What does Oregon consider a transfer? Hopefully they don't setup the same laws that the Toomey amendment would have added. It's scary when "common sense" precautions such as storing your guns in a friend's safe while your house is being remodeled or you are on an extended vaccation become felony behaviors!

All of the laws on that list strike me as feel good but do little (without knowing the details it's hard to say of course).
347: What's the point? If they are going to commit a crime that law won't stop them. If they aren't then how did that law protect anyone. All it offers is another offense for the prosecutors when the real offense is processed.
699: I guess it makes people feel safer.
700: I don't think this will really fix anything since so many guns don't exist in a system and it will be easy for the bad guys to bypass it. Basically it gives the prosecutor an extra angle but little more.
796: I see value in this for only one thing, it will ensure that CHL are motivated. That likely will mean you have a self selected group that will be extra good citizens and we can show that CHL holders are model citizens and thus we should let them carry in more locations and with fewer restrictions. What it won't do is actually make what ever training any better. It will make it harder for people who can't take the time to take classes to get their CHL. Not exactly fair to those people.

If they pass the two chambers of congress they will go to referendum as well.

I so completely agree but what about 1 child. Should Lanzo been left home alone with a younger sibling. NO!. So anyone taking those medicines shouldn't be wandering about.

And then there's the whole issue of bombers. We damn well better start putting cameras in houses to check on people.

These powders can be used as the explosive material in assembling pipe bombs, used in the Columbine school shooting, and pressure cooker bombs, which may have been used in the recent Boston attack.

Seems that could be interpreted as to ensnare ammunition as well, since propellant could be extracted from unfired rounds and "any amount" would encompass, well, any amount.
