well, I bit. it looks like the netflix support does feature the ability to search, unlike the older netflix implementations, and it will play SACD's.

thanks OP!
p.s. code definitely still works...

I already have a $30 insignia wifi blueray that is really great for kids Netflix, YouTube and DVD. I think roku or Xbox is better but some insist on bringing disks to house.

Hope this Sony is easy to use for amazon VOD even though no dedicated button.

I have one of these (bought new at Amazon for $90) and $50 for a manufacturer refurb is a great deal. Fast Blu-Ray load times, great selection of streaming video and music services, solid DLNA format support (plays some stuff PS3s don't, like MKV files and 50hz videos), SACD support, HDMI CEC support, and more. I wish it played SACD-R discs (at $50 I'd jump on another one to put in the room where I have a PS3 so I could play those), but otherwise it's awesome.

Finally bought it. I hope it works well. I had a Roku before. Since some of you have used it before, if I only need Amazon Video, Netflix, Hulu, and Crackle, is this going to be a good alternative? Since this player has all those apps and it also can play Bluray, it might suit my needs more than a Roku.

I've read the older firmwares work with SACD-R.

I believe I have as well, but is it possible to flash it with older firmware if mine has newer firmware or should they all come with SACD-R compatible firmware if you don't flash it?

I guess I can use my Discover card and use their return guarantee if it has newer firmware...

Googled around...

Sony BDP-S380 with latest firmware M06.R.0624 still plays SACD-R.

If you've upgraded a Sony BDP and SACD-R has stopped working, you can burn a firmware CD and force a downgrade at any point. You can upgrade/downgrade as often as you need.

BDP firmware archive: http://www.mmnt.net/db/0/0/ftp.va...HAV/BDP/FW
So if this model ever supported SACD-R, then that's a yes.

Uh, only you can answer that....LMAO

1) Do you need a bluray player?
2) Can you stream everything you need to now?
