Seagate GoFlex 1TB desk USB 3.0 $52.50 - Staples Clearance in-store YMMV

The sku number has been pulled from their online system so the inventory checker won't work. Calling the main number for Staples online to find out which local stores have stock still wouldn't work for me. The agent said the sku number doesn't show up in her system at all.

Go look at the reviews for this item on Amazon. About 50% of the people gave it one star. There's a reason why this is so cheap apparently. I'll pass on this one. But thanks op for trying.

The 2TB ones I got last year at Staples for like $45 still work fine. Maybe they put a different drive in this.

Picked one of these up at staples during Christmas for $30. So this is very YMMV

Most of the 1 star reviews are with the 3TB version of this. I have the 3TB and it was tricky getting it working due to the fact that Seagate decided to use some kind of drive translation to let the 3TB drives work in Windows XP. This, of course, caused problems.

The 1TB version won't have this issue.

The early models were sealed cases also (probably this one, I think you can tell from the last three digits of the model number), thus making them run very hot. I bought two last year and cracked them open to use them as internals and they have been perfect.
The newer models have little breather holes in the case to try and vent them some.

I scored 6 of those BadBoys--gave 2 away as gifts-crcked the other 4 and popped them in my server.Running strong.

I got this one 2 week ago using Office Max 10 off 50 Coupon. Got this drive for 42.50. It's really Very Very YMMV.

I just checked the Amazon reviews at the op's link. You are correct they are mostly for the 3TB. I wish Amazon would not lump all the reviews for various similar models into one like that it's really misleading!!!!

i tried hooking up a 1tb backup seagate, no power brick type. It looked like you had to buy their backup software that was installed in the drive. You only got a 30 day free period. i have a 2TB expansion drive and it also makes you buy their backup software if you want to use it. Acronis 2013, i happened to buy on sale, and I tried to backup my desk top after my laptop , said i needed another license. I started looking and there is plenty of open sourse free ware out there. That is the way i am going. Acronis just f'd themselves with that move. Seagate doesnt have the imput votgage and amperage for the brick on the input jack, and on their forums another person had tried to find out, seagate support had no idea and couldnt help him, plus the brick has no seagate markings at all, just a generic chinese switching brick. Luckily another buyer gave the 12v and 1.5 info needed. It is very rare that i see a input on a piece of equipment not marked with the voltage and amps,worse that customer support has no idea. Guess i need to research which brand drives are good since i need to clone one..
