http://slickdeals.net/permadeal/8...-windows-8 The deal in this current thread is, of course, $100 more. The processor is the next newer generation, though, should be slightly better in a "more efficent" sort of way. (Not noticeable for light non-gaming use.) This deal in this current thread has 2GB more RAM, which is always nice. Otherwise they are very similar. As for Lenovo vs Dell, that's up to the fan boyz, but you'll find folks on both sides of the aisle. The are both good deals. The $270 deal was probably slightly better just becuase it was $270, but it is dead now... so you can't get it anyway. That's my quick thoughts. |

The previous (same deal ) slickdeal mentioned the discount code and little else. At least this is more informative. The price starts out as $579 and then two (different expiration date codes) one for $80 & one for $120 kick-in. A reliable machine, the only major concern being the video card which (from my understanding) is not a gaming card. If you are doing any major gaming then the card is below expectations - (went on google to review it). If you are not, then the deal is fine. Someone Correct me, but this machine was selling for about $385, in Dell outlet; but, with coupon and was down to about $300..
Dell Inspiron 660s price includes $80 instant discount. Expires Friday, February 22, 2013 View Details - $80.00 $120 off Inspiron 660s desktop order code DDDASP07 Expires Tuesday, March 05, 2013 View Details - $120.00 |

1) often times machines from the major brands have a power supply that is just enough for what they stick in. Adding a better graphics card means more power, which sometimes the power supply can't handle. It can be hard to mod a Dell/Lenovo/HP/whatever because of this. 2) This machine is in a smaller case, which means you would LIKELY (im not sure) need a "low profile" card to fit in it. That means your selection is limited for upgrading. Hope that helps! |

Just to add to your confusion. This morning's Fry's ad (B&M, online?) offers the Dell 660, with the Dell monitor (24-2440L-avail/Dell for $199) with a slightly better card, slightly better setup for $799 package deal.
Meaning, in their deal you are paying about $200 more for the slightly better setup - Just to get an idea you may want to review the Frys, deal spec (but I would not buy it). If you want to find a deal, (my own game) wait for the next Dell outlet - 20% off - xps 8500 - and find an i3,i5 deal with a decent video card (at least one step up). There are a couple of those in the $600 price range and may even be in the $500 price range. Dell has been selling a lot of discounted 8500's, in the $700 price range and return's are starting to show up in the inventory. You will have to be fast though and be lucky and it will be a more expensive deal then this $379. |

It has been a while since I owned a desktop (2002). It has been all laptops since then, but I am thinking of changing back. |

I bought 12 of these for a work project last month, here are my thoughts on the 660s:
1) I thought it would be smaller. All of the pictures referenced the 10 inch form factor. It's actually about 10 inches tall x 5 inches wide x 25(!) inches deep. 2) For non-gaming use, they're pretty sweet little machines. Because of the size, you would need a low profile PCI-e card to upgrade the graphics capabilities. 3) If you're planning on upgrading the video card, you would almost certainly need a non-separately-powered card. I would also recommend a card without a fan, as there is nowhere in the case for the fan to blow air. 4) The power supply is proprietary, and cannot be replaced with a higher wattage supply. 5) It was a little tricky to upgrade the system memory myself, but not impossible. Great machine for the price, but a gaming machine it is not. Ferengi Rule of Acquisition #141: "Only Fools Pay Retail"
