Tamron 28-75mm F/2.8 SP AF Macro XR Di LD-IF with 6 year warranty - $475

Isn't everyone else $499 - $25 rebate? I'd rather go the rebate route without having to deal with Tanga. Are they an authorized retailer, and will Tamron honor the 6-year warranty through them?

Unless Tanga operates under a different name, they are not a Tamron authorized dealer, and Tamron takes that pretty seriously. Since Tamron's latest service policy is to have a 3-day turnaround on repairs and warranty issues, that's a BIG deal if they are unauthorized.

Mostly, it's just not a good price. I paid $450 for this lens about a year and a half ago, and it's been cheaper than that over time. Wow. I got this lens several years ago in the low 3s. It's sharp and fast, but not exactly a stellar range for a general purpose lens on a crop camera. However, for what I was using it for, it was perfect. Kind of surprised to see in priced in the same territory as the far more useful Tammy 17-50.

Unless full framers are making a run on this lens. What say you all, FFers? Are you gobbling this up as a cheaper alternative to the high grade standard zooms from Canon and Nikon?

to each their own preference. I find that the 28-75 is perfect on my crop.

45-120 equiv (Nikon would be a little wider) is a bit unusual for a general purpose range, but for my purpose, it was what I needed as well. I don't see it being all that popular, however, with the trend towards wider and wider lenses. Which was why I wondered about full frame use, where it has a classic standard range.

When I bought my lens, crop cameras still reigned supreme in volume sold. With all the new full frame cameras available, I was curious if this lens saw a bit of a renaissance.

I remember buying mine for about $275 before people discovered it was a "diamond in the rough." I know there was a lot of debates over "good copies." I love my copy.
