I've debated GLD for 24 months..... Buffet is right, if you fill a stadium with gold, in 100 years, you'll still have a stadium with gold. If you rather use your cash to buy a productive company that can make goods, then in 100 years you will have many more stadiums filled with goods in addition to the company.

Buy productive assets. Gold and silver will implode. Whenever you see commercials on TV for gold, GTFO. Similar to all the other bubbles. Real estate commercials, GTFO..... Day trading commericals, GTFO.....

Been watching much to much CNBC friend. Paper money is worthless and is being inflated away at rapid rates. You are right that gold generates no value, but it protects you against the worthlessness of paper. The problem with GLD is that it's highly leveraged with no physical backing it. Making it basically fiat, but it's a good short term trade anyway.

Isn't GLD a mining stock? As long as the mines make money, the stock does too? I don't think it is actual gold that you are buying.

For those of us who can't, I prefer CEF (Central Fund of canada). 50/50 Gold/silver held in canadian vaults with audits performed semi-annually.

if you believe the audits this is a good way too go. In Canada, I would ensure that I have means of getting food and try to put away as much physical as possible. Even if you ounces here and there of any precious metals. PMs will always have a place in this world, and will be in higher demand if the global ponzi fiat system fails. The problem with paper gold and silver is that they are priced by western central banks, gold imo is currently undervalued several times because they are keeping it artificially low. Trading more gold securities per day than there actually is gold in the world.

No, you're probably thinking of GDX with is a gold miner ETF. GLD is the gold trust ETF.

The only time you buy actual gold is when you buy actual gold.

We're getting closer to the official big move. What has to happen is a major bear celebration and bull capitulation. All you will see on the cartoon TV machine is "the gold bubble has popped" just like you've seen every time gold has corrected in the past 10 years. Sentiment isn't quite as negative as it could be and the large specs still need to unload, commercial hedgers going all-in net short.

After that, guess what? Same thing that always happens: everyone gets off the bus and then the shorts get their faces ripped off. We're talking $200 UP days as everyone and their sister runs to safety.

No debating that. Paper is worthless, but gold isnt the place to stick your disposable. It's just another bubble and people will wake up one morning and realize gold doesnt generate anything (nor interest or products/services). You're betting that someone else will pay more for it that you will (tulips anyone?).

I know it seems ridiculous, but I would rather buy real estate. Borrow paper money that will be worthlesss in 15 years and lock in the lowest rates in history. Borrowing fiat money to buy a hard asset seems like a winner to me, especially when that asset can be productive. You can rent out real estate for example. Or borrow to buy a small private business etc. But gold, kabooom.....

Gold only has a value because we deem it to have a value same with diamonds. Gold can't feed your family. In the post apocalyptic world offering a piece of gold will get you no where.

There is no gold bubble, seeing as I don't see anyone buy gold except for a select few. Other than that, gold is being price by paper gold trades. You can buy real estate if you like, but considering the amount of excess homes to people who can actually buy them not to mention the amount of foreclosures that still haven't been processed and the inventory that the banks release little by little. Gold has value because developing economies are going all out on gold. Gold has always had historical value and it always will have value. It is something that is impossible to fake, the garbage twig houses are garbage. If I was buying hard assets, it would be guns and gold. Always a demand for guns and for PMs. If i bought real estate it would have to be in manhattan, but that's significantly overpriced imo.
