Yes, I have always been firmly in the matte screen camp, particularly with notebook PCs. But lately in my home office, I am noticing more and more, a kind of screen door effect looking at my matte monitor. It is from light playing off the matte coating - a mild sparkly look for lack of a better description. I don't think that occurs on a gloss screen, although as you mention, the down side of gloss is reflections. I have access to a gloss screen for some testing, and so am planning to try it out in the typical location in my home office, to see if it can handle the reflections, otherwise will stick with matte.
