These prices are insane. I'm considering taking the guns out of the safes and storing the ammo in them instead.

They will sit happily in a closet being depleted for the next 3-5+ years at only 3 or 4 cents each....while I cringe at the shooting range seeing others rationing their ammo cause they paid over double/triple the price. Hoarder? Nope. I actually deplete my ammo not sit on them. And you can't hoard at current prices. |

I made no mention of you shooting 20k rounds of .22 in a week or a month. Just find it strange to think somebody feels the need to have 20k rounds of .22 on hand. You buy what you want, but what are you shooting with it? Small game or just an extreme plinker? ![]() I'm all for having ammo on hand, but I never keep that much ammo total for the 6 caliber of ammo my guns use. Feeling the need to have 20k rounds of .22 is what makes the shortages that much worse. There is a reason why everyone is on here in order to save money. And common rule that applies that buying bulk saves money. When you look at the historical price of ammo, it goes no where but up. Hell, I hear about old timers who purchased military surplus ammo in the 80s at 70 bucks per 1k of ak47 7.62 ammo....... and they still working on it to this day makes me envious. Current prices are 300-400 per 1k rds right now, if not more. Scared to look at 5.56 / 223 round prices. Consider someone who purchased 20k rds of ammo at any caliber in the 80s. And compare with another people just purchased what he needed for that day at the local store at given price for that time.... all the way til now reaching 20k. Who do you think saved $$ in the long run? I started late and started buying them in early 2012. Bought a bulk of 9mm at $160 per 1k. I'm still working on it while everyone else is buying 30 bucks per 50 rds. What is that? 600 bucks per 1k? Thats insane. Buying in bulk helps protect you from wild swings of ammo prices during shootings and elections, can still shoot while everyone else are scared to go to the range. Hell, if gasoline never went bad and as long as you properly store it, last decades like ammo? I would have purchased by the barrels in 1999 when gas was like 80 cents a gallon. Would you call that people who bought couple of tanker size amount of gas that never goes bad at 80 cents a gallon and uses it to this day a crazy nutt or a genius?
