I am using one of this. Be sure to connect via DVI or DP. Most video card for HDMI max out at 1080p.

I have 2 of the new 27" Ultraesharp's with premier color. I also have 2 U3011's. Side by side there is a slight difference. The 27's seem to be brighter and more vivid. Not noticeable unless you are extending your desktop and have a window between both screens.

Old or new, you can't go wrong with Dell Ultrasharp monitors. They are the best. I have always used them for work/gaming and love them. Their design is simplistic and lasting. They don't have weird plastic stands. The frames aren't weird curved "trying to be cool/hip" designs. Just modern, clean and simple.

The picture quality isn't close. Dell's AG coating is terrible and is an absolute deal breaker.

to each, their own. i would prefer the u2713h (or possibly the hp zr2740w), but i don't want a glossy korean and i would prefer the ag coating on the u2713h to any matte korean one. but that's my opinion, not everyone's.

Wow! Thanks for the info, Atom! I didn't even know Monoprice was selling IPS screens now. And they're the same LG panels that Apple uses for their Cinema Displays!?!? I currently use a 30" Apple Cinema Display, but if it ever gives out on me, I might go with that monoprice height-adjustable 30" version.

I've been thinking of ordering one, but be warned, there are issue with the current USB 3.0 hubs in them. Check the dell forums. So I'd hold off on the new models until they fix the problem.

I think I will be holding off buying any the new series of monitors, just incase fixes like mentioned in the below linked review can happen for the Dells. They use the same panels in their new monitors as well. So it's just a matter of them putting in the same time and determination as LG did here. http://www.anandtech.com/show/674...ew-rev-125 So I think I'm waiting for dell to do their fixes, or buying LG versions of this monitor LG 27EA83, assuming it gets the same fixes as the LG 29WA93. For me the input lag is important, as I'd like a monitor that is all around good and can be used for the occasional game as well. The game mode on the current U2713H does nothing.

This monitor is S-IPS that has nothing to do with the cost... AH-IPS is the newest IPS released in 2011. The cost of this monitor is strictly based on it's higher resolution. Here is a deal I posted a few days ago for an Asus 23" AH-IPS panel for $229

There is also a 27" version for like $350 which would be considerably cheaper than this dell for a much newer AH-IPS. The Dell however has higher resolution so it costs more. Not trying to crap on the deal because anyone who does any high end editing knows why they would want the higher resolution on the dell but for home use there really isn't much reason to spend $650 on a monitor.

Not sure if it's the frequency or what, but there is definitely something to LED backlighting that bothers some people. I got terrible eyestrain and headaches from the $400 Auria 27" monitor that Microcenter sells (which, by the way, is now using the same matte panel as this monitor). I'm not sure if the glossy had anything to do with it too, but I had to sell it to a friend since I couldn't use it for any more than a few minutes without heavy headaches. It was worst when web browsing, largely on light/white backgrounds. The small text didn't help either.

Most likely the backlight or brightness setting was turned way up. Often you can't even change the backlight level so if it's too bright you have no fix for it. The fact it was LED has nothing to do with it, LED in general causes much less eyestrain than CCFL one of the primary causes of headaches for office workers wasn't even the monitors it was the flourescent tube lighting (same as CCFL monitors) it took them decades to figure out what flicker offset they needed on each tube to avoid causing headaches. If you want a cool experiment set all the tube lighting in a room to the same flicker speed and it will appear as if everything in the room jumps from one place to another because despite you not being able to consciously see that the room is going black then light again 60 times a second your eyes still see both the light and dark points so if you move your hand it appears to jump several inches at a time. How they eventually fixed this for the most part is they set each tube to fill the dark gaps in the other one so they alternate flickers and there is always light... it still causes eyestrain and fatigue for most people but much less than it used to and only a small percentage still get headaches from this setup.

yes and no. the greatest driver of price are the resolution and size. the other features add value though, no question about it.
