Yes, you are correct that the U2713 uses LEDs and does not use PWM dimming to lower the brightness, but that monitor is way overpriced unfortunately. Also note that this Dell monitor produces overshoot which you can not adjust so gamers out there be warned, also the input lag is not not great since there is no way to bypass the image processor on this model U2711. I own the auria and a 27" iMac and the auria build quality, user interface, and case are subpar. My auria is extremely glossy and doesn't always acknowledge when the computer is plugged into it. For a $200 price difference, I might say it would be worth it for the Dell with a height adjustable stand and better build quality.

I love my U2711. Had one for almost 2 years now, would never go back. I may upgrade to the U2713HM when I get a bug up my ass

Tech does evolve. The old sRGB space is on the way out, especially given the fact that GB-LED backlights have just come onto the scene and modern wide-gamut monitors can effectively mimic sRGB. sRGB is on its way out, and that's a good thing. The human eye can see far more than what sRGB offers. The JPEG format should be replaced by PNG-24, too. Computers have more than enough disk space and memory space to handle a lossless image format, and dialup modems are basically a thing of the past. Some people are happy listening to 128k mp3 on tinny laptop speakers. sRGB is like that. But neither offer the optimal experience with modern technology. |

I ended up driving to micro center to see these Auria monitors. I prefer Dells for the UI and the ability to adjust colors with ease....but for the price of $399 plus the 2 year replacment warranty for another $50, I couldn't pass on that price point and purchased an Auria. So far, the UI is crap on the monitor, but after getting it tuned in, it looks great. Gets warm, as does the power supply, most likely an energy hog. The AG coating is visible, but honestly its not that bad unless on a screaming white screen ( I keep my monitors brightness turned down so maybe that's why I don't notice as much) Its sitting between 3 other monitors so time will tell if I like it. I would bite on this Dell, I mean if its the same panel with a 3 year warranty and a better UI...Hell i might still buy it.
One big bummer about the Auria, no ability to save custom setting per input, meaning its the same for all inputs. Kinda lame Last edited by digital2d; 02-19-2013 at 09:58 PM.. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |
