Since you opted to quote a small portion of what you said I've opted to re-quote the entire thing since you apparently forgot that resolution isn't all you mentioned. See the entire post after that first sentence? Where you go on to explain all kinds of different reasons why the Dell is better when it's not because it's using a 13 year old screen standard that has been improved upon a half dozen times in the past decade. It's good compared to a TN panel but compared to more modern IPS panels it's pretty dated and color reproduction isn't as good. You also seem to imply that dell isn't a cheap korean model when in fact they easily could be since dell doesn't make it's own stuff. To my knowledge dell doesn't actually make anything... They may make something I'm unaware of but it's definitely not monitors or laptops/computers since they buy those from suppliers just like almost everyone else does.

We agree that resolution is a driving factor in cost but you seem to keep implying there are other major factors in the price of this monitor which there simply isn't... other than the resolution the only factor worth mentioning is Dells logo which they often charge quite a lot for considering they didn't make what it's stamped on.

Is it all out of your system... Would a monitor at that resolution without an ips and bad color reproduction be the same price? No it wouldn't. It's features have a cumulative effect on the price and if you don't agree then there is nothing else to discuss. Someone asked for a simple reason why this was different then other monitors, I gave a simple response.

Thanks to those who answered my question about why these monitors cost so much. I'm not in the market for one, but I just couldn't understand why this thing cost more than I paid for my tv lol

LM270WQ2 27" H-IPS was the screen I thought the Dell U2711 used. Is this false?

The 2 monitors are different. This monitor has a higher color gamut and color depth. The 2013 model is a cheaper panel than the 2011.

So if you can't tell the different between the 2 models you shouldn't be wasting your time posting on these deals.

For the average person it would be a waste of their money on getting a high end monitor like these because most movie and video games are calibrated around a 75% sRGB color gamut monitor. So when you are viewing contents on web space and other average things you do you will get a lot of overly saturated pictures and odd color cast on a higher color gamut monitor.

sweet jesus. i agreed with everything you said EXCEPT that ips adds no value to a monitor, which is just a silly thing to say even if it is the older s-ips. i'm not even aware of a 1440p that isn't an ips (or pls which is samsung's version). so please find us one, and then maybe there will be a point to this ridiculous conversation.

bought a used apple 27 cinema monitor (very good condition) for $600 cash + $20 gas. so that verses this deal, which one is a better?

I ask because all signs point that the Dell U2711 uses the LM270WQ2 panel which is 8-bit+A-FRC, not the 10 bit. maybe something has changed in production of these.
