No.
Yes, old flourescent lights flickered and caused headaches. That is true. And pure LED light does not flicker. That is also true. Both of those facts are completely irrelevant to this point. Most monitors have been using a technique known as pulse-width-modulation (PWM) to dim their backlight for about the past 7 years or so. This means that instead of just turning down the power to the backlight, they rapidly flash the backlight on and off at a frequency higher than the human eye can detect, thus giving the illusion of a less-bright light. The problem is that people who are migraine sensitive tend to get horrible headaches from this technique. In monitors that use this PWM technique, LED backlighting is MUCH worse than CCFL because CCFL light has more persistence than LED light, therefore mitigating the strobe effect. LED light is more instant on-off, thus creating a true strobe effect and maximizing the migrane-inducing qualities of the monitor. There has been an explosion of people having headache issues with LED-backlit monitors in recent years. I am one of them--that is why I have done so much research into this. CCFL monitors that use PWM also bother me, but much MUCH less than LED ones. An LED montor that uses PWM might give me a headache in 5 minutes, while a CCFL one takes hours. Either way, PWM is a horrid technology that should go the way of the dodo, and companies should return to using power-control for backlight dimming. It looks like most of the new 27" Dell monitors this year are doing this, so hopefully that is the beginning of a trend. |

Don't even compare that with asus crappy quality assurance on their monitors. Sent from Slickdeals App for iPhone & iPod Touch. |

Luckily, monitor review sites like tftcentral are now publishing which monitors use PWM so that people can make informed decisions without having to use electrical engineering equipment! And you are right--nearly every monitor does not exhibit the problem on max brightness. But then you have the issue of staring at a monitor that is melting your eyeballs! |

Yes the Dell warranty on these monitors is kick-ass, I got a replacement in less then 48 hours. |

Asus generally ranks higher than dell in quality and Asus actually make quite a lot of their own stuff unlike dell who buys from suppliers... so not really sure what your comment is even supposed to be implying. As for Dells warranty that sounds great but I get the same thing simply from buying anything on Amazon or Costco or really any reputable retailer so why would I pay $300 for a warranty that provides the same thing any reputable retailer provides? |

Just so you guys know:

People are so stupid IMO. Microcenter sells the Auria 27" IPS monitor for $399.99 which uses the EXACT same LG LM270WQ2 panel as this Dell U2711.
$399 for the Auria vs $650 for this Dell and now you see why people are so stupid.... Also 8x CCFL is SUPERIOR to the PWM dimmed LEDs. PWM dimming found on almost all LED monitors will ruin your eyes and nervous system and it's NO joke. People simply dont have a proper education as to its effects. Education is KEY to our reality, and this "deal" SUCKS. Its just another attempt at Slickdeals to make more referral money on the stupid. Last edited by 5thElement; 02-17-2013 at 04:19 AM.. |

TThats way cheap.
Is it used or something?

I've actually read that the U2713HM uses LED and does NOT use PWM, so it's the best of both worlds. It's a shame this information can be so difficult to find. |
